I tend to prefer the Wedges also, mostly for the same reason. But, I still enjoy quite a few of the Full Hollows too.

    Interesting.
As I said before, it could all be down to the Supermax blade. Maybe it's just too mild for the shavette. I'm gonna have to use some sharper blades.

Do you use skin stretching? I find it isn't really needed for a DE, but is critical to getting a comfortable shave with a straight or shavette. I rub my wet fingers on an alum bar, and then can grip soapy skin, and pull away from the direction the razor is going. This was a game changer for my shaves.

I do but I find it hard to stretch the skin at all positions. I'm still learning.

Don't feel bad, I rarely stretch the skin. Age hasn't caught up to me yet, and my skin is still taught. I only puff out my cheeks some, to tighten my skin up.

It was a serious game changer for me to add this to my shaves. I didn't need it for DE, and I can do SR shaves without it, but I get better results with less irritation when I do it. I get a little alum on my fingers, and place them about a half inch from where I will start my shave stroke. I pull the skin about a half inch in the direction opposite the direction the razor is going. On tight skin like my chin, I can't pull it that far, but holding it makes the whiskers stand up and get cut a lot easier. I have a baby face, not very stretchy skin, and questionably honed razors I did myself. This does wonders to make the shaves better.

It sounds to me like an angle problem. Too steep an angle and the razor will glide but not cut close - too shallow an angle and the razor will stutter in the way you describe. Check and make sure you're shaving with the razor at around a 30 degree angle in relation to the area you're shaving. That should smooth out the shave.

    Best Regards

I am one who swaps between shavette and straights. Shavette when I travel and straights at home.

Sometimes I shave several days in a row because of engagements I have. And when I do, my face gets shaved better with fewer "missed" spots where my angle of attack was off a tad. Otherwise it's once a week for me.

My shavette gives great shaves. The increased sharpness I felt last time was my fault due to sloppy stropping. I tightened up my stropping technique and all is great once again.

So as everyone else has suggested... practice more. (I only own full hollow ground Razors...I like the sound because it drives my wife nuts)

And yes, compared to a few years ago I fly when Shaving these days.
