Soak the razor in a dilute solution of borax or vinegar and scrub with an old toothbrush. If you want, you can even use toothpaste, too. (Seriously, it works. Just get the cheap kind for razors, like Pepsodent...razors don't really need whitening or cavity protection. :happy102). What kind did you end up getting? Pics? We all love razor porn.
Now that my superspeed's on the way, does anyone have a suggestion for which blade sample pack to start with?
Argh more trivial questions that I thought I'd ask. How many shaves should I expect before I change blades? or is it purely "feel" based? And after using one side of the blade, you turn it around and use the other side, right? (i just had to ask)
That's what we're here for. This is really a YMMV kinda thing, some folks like to go a certain amount of days and then toss the blade before it goes bad and tugs and pulls, the train of thought is that with D/E blades being so cheap there is no reason to wait for it to go bad. Others do as you say, and keep using the blade till it feels rough and pulls. Again YMMV, some will shave with one side, and when it fills with lather rinse it off and then use the other side. I prefer to just spin the razor when one side is full of lather, shave with the other side until it too is full, then rinse both sides at once.
Oh. I thought I had to uninstall the blade, turn it around then clamp down before I use the other side. Any particular sample pack you would recommend? (I am not familiar with any brand of blade)
Congratulations on the score...Let us know what condition its in when you get it...The Super Speeds were built to last several lifetimes, and if its in good shape it will do just that...Hope you get a ton of GREAT shaves from it...
Please return to the second post in this thread. From there click on the Shave School Master Sticky List Bill put there. Check out link #2 & 3 - the videos for some very valuable How-To tips and pointers. Check out link #7 - the Blade Sample pack. Heck, check out all the links.
Everything Steve said...Bill has forgotten more than most people will ever know about Traditional Wet Shaving, and he put together a Ton of information in those Stickys...Those videos are alot of fun aswell as very informative...If you check that stuff out you will be entertained, informed, and by the time your razor gets here you'll be ready to start working on those "chops"...Thats when the real fun starts...It just keeps getting better and better...
