For me Captains Choice Bay Rum is fantastic. Excellent face feel and stellar bay rum scent..

 

Having just received in the mail samples of these three 'Bay Rums' from MaltedMilk, I'd like to chime in with my impressions of the trio:

Lucky Tiger: Malted was onto something with his beauty parlor hair spray reference. The smell of this 'bay rum' is more at home in 'Millie's Hair Emporium' than in most men's shaving dens. My first reaction after splashing this on is, "How soon can I rinse it off?" Smells more reminiscent of cheap hair tonic than bay rum.

Lustray: Sour-smelling; more medicinal in scent than the other two samples. Slight cinnamon scent, but artificial. Smell resembles an antiseptic ointment versus refreshing aftershave. Not Bay Rum.

Black Magic: Flowery; like those cheap shampoo samples found in motels. Not the type of scent I picture sailors of old concocting from rum & bay. Smells more like soap than aftershave. Slightly reminiscent of those cheap generic men's aftershaves prevalent in the 70's. Dreadful.

Regrettably, none of these samples come close to what a 'BAY RUM' should be. At least with the Clubman Bay Rum, you get a relative sense of what the bay rum scent actually is—although heavily masked with clove.
These three samples are enough for anyone to try and think, "Bay Rum is not for me..." which is unfortunate.

I just got all of these in a trade as well. The Clubman BR is tolerable, and I probably would have liked it a bit more if I hadn't tried the Kramperts.

I can add one thought on the other three. I literally had to wash them off they were so bad. If Lilac Vegetal didn't exist, any one of the them could be contenders for worst aftershave on the planet...
