Tabac in the bowl is on my list to eventually get. I usually go for the refills but the Tabac bowl seems to be only a small premium over the refill puck. They may be collectable some day when they are out of production so I wouldn't toss the bowl out with the bathwater but I doubt it will ever be quite valuable so I wouldn't lock it up with the fine china. The vintage bowls with the old style Tabac logo don't seem to be super common but I'm sure if the prices went up they would even start turning up on auction sites.
I was actually against the bowl at first for some time ago. But the supermarket didn't carry the refill (so I'm going online when I run out, should I choose to refill). I found the bowl was very nice - something I could easily use for lathering or other shave-stuff if not for a puck of Tabac. I don't count on it to be a collectible, but more of good use.
I almost ordered the bowl with puck twice, I hear good things about it. I know its hard to describe a smell, but could someone please try to enlighten me? Is it a spicy like sandlewood, strong citrusy like williams? clean "soap" like VDH? a flowery like EJ?
Not citrus, not VDH, not flowery... more musky, spicy, tobacco like. But not sandlewood at all, at least not the sandlewood bar soap I have from Søstrene Grene. I'd say go to your local drugstore that caries the Cologne and get a whif of it. Those smell alike. Now they have the soap again, also at another store (same chain) across town. Still at a bargain of $25. It's like they don't know what to do with it. They have it on a shelf among female products.. lol
Now, wait just a minute!!! Try lathering that tampon and see what you get! On second thought, forget that.
'powdery' is the term that comes to mind whenever I use the Tabac soap. It does make great lather. The scent, however, is not one of my favorites. I realized this after purchasing the Tabac cologne. One whiff and my 80-yr old mother's perfume (Miss Dior) came immediately to mind. All 3 of my sons and wife are in agreement and commented when I wore that I smell like 'Grandma.' Nothing manly about this situation, I guarantee. A very good shave soap, however, and fortunately, the scent is considerably milder than the cologne or aftershave.
And THATS what I was fishing for. Thanks. Thats the only draw back to our sport. Many of our products smell like an elderly bathroom attendant. Some of it I like (clubman) some of it, not so much. I guess thats what happens when we use products made 30 to 100 years ago I guess.
It has a plastic lid for sure, if that's what you mean? To me, Tabac smells like my grandfather. He always wore it. In Denmark (Europe I guess) it's not worn by ladies at all. It's a manly scent and manly directed product. I had another scent, Alt Innsbruck that is an uni-sex scent but unfortunately it smelled exactly like SWMBO's grandmother. A really old lady scent. I actually like it, but the association not so much. I traded it. I don't get powdery associations at all if I understand powdery correct. Maybe I'm not
I actually meant surrounding the bowl, like a beverage bottle, but white plastic. Hope that clarified what I ment haha. I'll try to find a picture if it doesnt
Ahh now I think I know what you feel. I would say no, but I don't have anything to carry that statement in. But I don't get the impression when I handle the bowl at all.
The bowl is a simple milk glass like the old shave mugs and the lid is plastic. No plastic in or around the bowl at all.
This image (hair paste) you can see it's surrounded by white plastic and clear plastic. By my Thumb you can see the white plastic with information and by the pinky finger you see the clear plastic with partiall logo. Thank you! haha now we know =P
The one I was looking at was different. Im just going to have to try it. Now, is this one glass or plastic?
