Your missing out on easy top shelf shaves if you avoid that hole. The new stuff just cost a lot and there is really nothing about them better then the vintage razors. You can add the YMMV here if you like to use that one... but there really is no need.

I’ve never used an injector so I can’t speak to it. An OCMM was one of my very first razors and I used it for about a year. The blade is stiffer and has a very different feel compared to DE. I found at the time getting BBS with multi-directional coarse growth was much easier than with a DE. I now use a DE daily for a quick two pass shave, but I still have my original OCMM and pull it out occasionally out of nostalgia. Hit the bay and get a Micromatic and some blades for less than $20 shipped. It’ll be easy for you, since you use a straight and it will be something new and fun.

You need one of those little butterscotch Bakelite circa '30's Schick injector razors. :)

I'd recommend Andrew. He has great prices in GEM stainless blades. Last FOREVER, and don't tarnish.
Man, you are gonna love the Featherweight! I still have the one @wchnu sent me, and it is still going strong.
When you do your first shave with it let us know how it works ! Also, you may like hanging out across the street. That's
where we only do SE and Injector razors.
If you need blades in a pinch, rite aid and CVS both have the 10 pack of SE blades in the shaving isle.
Good choice and sooner than later you will love this rabbit hole!

How long do coated gem blades last?
    Do blades degrade just sitting?
I’ve been using Voshkod DE blades ocassionally and find after one use have a limited life span just sitting.

Most people get about 10 shaves out of an SS PTFE Gem. Carbon Steel blades will degrade over time, especially when left in a humid environment but Stainless Steel blades are much less susceptible to oxidation. I take my blades out (both stainless and CS) and pat them dry between shaves. Water drying on the edge can leave microscopic mineral deposits that can damage the edge and make it dull prematurely. You can also dunk your whole razor head in 91% isopropyl alcohol to displace the water if you don't want to take the blade out of the razor between shaves. Since I've started doing this I've noticed that blades seem to last much longer.

Some use then turn them over. Some report dozens of shaves with the PTFE.

LOL, these guys are really into seeing how many shaves they can get. Never shimmed personally, but I have bloomed the VDH before.

    02/2/2019 Shave

RazoRock 400 Noir Plissoft Synthetic Shaving Brush
Salsa Bowl / Timeless bowl scuttle
    Stirling Noir Shave Soap
    Stirling Noir Aftershave Splash
    Nivea Sensitive Post Balm
    CVS SE Blade
Every-Ready Shovel Head on Weber Bulldog Handle

I got my first shave in for February late yesterday afternoon. Yesterday was a lazy day for me. I just did not feel like doing anything.

I think for February I will focus on the single edge. I gathered all of my single edges up for a picture and I did not realize I had this many. I think they are multiplying like rabbits.

I chose the shovel-head for its awesome good looks and mounted in on the Weber bulldog. I was amazed at how good a shaver this puppy is. It almost talks to you with the amount of audible feedback. This shovel-head is loud. This is actually my second shave with a SE. My first was with a MMOC and was rather rough. I believe my angle was off because I was shaving like it was a DE. I laid the shovel-head against my face and brought the angle out slightly and let the razor do the work. I am really getting into the SE shave. I like it.

I finished up with some alum which had a little burn. I have got to work on the technique. Finished up with some Nivea post balm and Stirling Noir aftershave.

Looking forward to some more SE shaves this month. Now if I can just pick out another SE razor and I'll have to squeeze in a Fatboy for February as well.

Y'all take care and have a great day!
