    Gys,
I have a nice resin handle. that came as BD gift from a friend, the hole is 30mm deep 17mm.
I am about to order a nice Badger knot, would you go for a 30mm or 29mm?
Or witch size would you order?

You should always go at least 1mm less than the hole diameter, so 29mm.

FYI, knots are measured at the base of the knot, at the glue plug, and get bigger from there.

The hole seems 17 mm deep, would you recommend 29 or 28?

Hole depth is not the same as hole diameter.
If your hole is 30mm wide, go with the 29mm knot, as Ryan said.
You can set the knot at any depth you like. Setting it deeper will give some stiffness (backbone, as they like to say) to the knot. Setting it shallow will result in a floppier knot.

If you look at the Maggard’s website they will have suggestions listed as you look over the knots. I would even suggest going with a 28mm SHD knot and after you install it it will feel like a 30mm knot.

If you set it in the full 17mm, yeah, you'll wind up with some nice backbone to your brush.

I have a 2-band badger that has a 28mm knot in a 30mm handle and that setup works great. I'd try putting the knot in without adhesive/epoxy first and see if it seems right. If you want the knot to be set a little less deep, you can try putting a washer or quarter under it. You might think a washer is cheaper, but nope, not unless you've got one lying around. :) https://www.build.com/product/summa...VlB-tBh0WnwgYEAQYAiABEgKFkPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I use to be hard set on the rule of the loft is equal to 2x the knot diameter, but now I go by backbone, and looks. It's okay as a guideline, but it's not the law.

I use the cheapest thing I have ......... pennies.

They work great and you can adjust it almost by the mm.

I raised my D01 Shavemac (stock setting in Shavemac handle) when I re-handled it. It was set at 14mm, I think, and I had it raised to 12mm depth.

It's a very individual choice. Also a good reason to choose silicone over epoxy for setting the knot.

I placed the order for a 29 mm, I like a bit of backbone. Will see.
I will post the final result.
