I`d say take your time and do not rush, make the shave as slowly as possible, for me, this is the most important thing for a good shave.
I would have to agree. I need to do my specific set up steps in order to achieve a good shave. I once tried shaving without a cream and boy, did I regret it. I ended up with 2 small cuts at the top and side of my lip. I need to do my facial wash first and massage with a good lather before everything is set. I would probably think twice and postpone it if I would not be able to pull the steps off.
But, with poor prep, a dull blade, or a poor quality razor, you will be trying to compensate for all of these shortcomings, not allowing you to practice proper technique.
