Test lathered the brush this afternoon with some Barrister and Mann Seville. The first re-lather for this vintage brush went well. Everything points to this being a killer brush. Mountains of thick lather were whipped up in no time. The brush will enter the rotation on Tuesday.

That's great news. In working with the knot I could see why the Omega 10066 is so highly regarded.

image.jpg image.jpg I just got back from vacation and found this in the mail! Two pictures first as I received it the second is after 1 min with a paper towel and some Flitz. Wow, I may not need to sand it at all. Looking at getting a synthetic for it as I really like my Sterling. What do y'all think? Sand or not? Next I need to get the old knot off. What is the best way to unscrew the handle? I've looked through the threads and will try leverage with a jar strap.

I'd say leave it as it is and enjoy the history.
To get the handle unscrewed use a band wrench and a vise, or two band wrenches and a friend. I bet it won't be too hard to get going, since the rest of it is in good shape.

Now you are just being cruel I don't think I would sand it. It's very nice as it is.

Mine has become my favorite brush hands down. Love the Grade A silvertip in it and that handle is just...amazing to hold (and look at) :)

Ok, I'm thinking of a synthetic knot like the Sterling. Not sure if it will fit. I could get a Sterling brush and use the knot. Anyone ever try to find a synthetic like those?

Chiseled Face sells synthetic knots like in the Sterling Brush. 24mm and 28mm

Cool! thanks. Gotta get the old one out so I can check if I want to widen out the lip first.

Congrats again. You are well on your way.

From personal experience I don't think you will be able to widen it out to 28mm. It was all I could do to get it to 27mm for an Omega Boar from my Pro 49. A 24mm will fit without any hassle at all.

The best method I have found to get the old one out is:
    1. Cut the old bristles off as close to the cap as possible. I use a pair of tin snips.
    2. Drill a hole in the the center.
    3. Take a medium size flat head screw driver and with the cap resting on the bench as in your picture, begin to press down firmly on the old knot. I have found most of the time the old glue will just break away in pieces leaving it fairly clean inside.
I have done eight of these so if you have any questions just sent me a message.

Thanks! I'm going to work on that this coming week. I used my WD Silvertip today and I like the backbone of it over the Sterling, so I may go for a 24 Silvertip. I'll have to see how deep I can set the knot. Did you build up a base before you bedded the knots on the ones you have done? By the way those all look great, which is what got me into this new adventure.

That brush looks fantastic! What size Silvertip did you use and how deep is it set. I haven't made up my mind yet, on what knot to use, but I'm leaning Silvertip.

It is pushing it but you can get it around 15mm deep in the collar. Some knots can be set that deep with a base and others can not. It all depends on the height of the plug. I can tell you that the knot @Darkbulb used was a very nice Silvertip. He should be able to give you the specifics.

Just got the knot out using your tips, thanks! Took some measurements and it looks like 24 mm without sanding and a depth of 15 mm should work leaving 3-4 mm for the plug. Also the old glue plug smelled a lot like the Veg, while drilling it out, glad I was outside. Ok, now for the knot. I leanings to a Silvertip, so @Darkbulb can you give me some information on the knot you used? Thanks in advance!
