I can boil down my my 23 razors to these favorites. (But don't tell the other razors or their feelings might be hurt.) 1. 58 Fat Boy 2. 58 Executive (not the same as #1) 3. 48-50 Aristocrat 4. Maggard "frankenrazor" (Maggard head on very heavy old handle from an estate sale). Smoothest razor I own! 5. Old Type (family heirloom) Still have a single ring to try yet and a '57 Red Tip on it's way. Don't know there they'll fit.
I got one of the "blemished" Ikons, but for the life of me cannot see anything I would consider a blemish. Top quality stainless and has a good heft to it. Great shaves so far... Except when I tried to go too fast. The blemished 102 was $68.
I only have two so far, and I love my Ikon 102. My Muhle R89 is a good razor, I just need a heavier handle for it I think.
Lord L6, Parker 26c and some $3 travel razor. I use the Lord head and Parker handle as my only razor now. I would still put the Lord L6 on my list because it's cheap and shaves well but the heavier and more grippy handle makes it better.
I have only 5 "happy few" now: 1. 48 Milord 2. 58 TV Special 3. EJ Chatsworth Barley Chrome 4. Fatboy 5. Slim I really like the Milord and TV Special, and both of these get the most time in my rotation. Now, I've still got a few on my "want to have" list.
I love my R41 the biggest difference was maintaining the correct angle while shaving. The correct angle is a steep one with the handle almost touching your face move it slowly away with just enough angle for the blade to engage your whiskers. If I shave with it like my other DE's with a shallow angle ( the handle further away from my face) I would tear my face apart. The other lesson was to find the right blade for me, the feathers were sharp but rough and led to weepers and cuts. The Rapira Platinum Lux are nearly as sharp but wayyyy smother and I get a closer shave, with no irritation, and no weepers to boot. YRMV Stick with it and you will get the closest shaves of your life. Hope this was helpful. Gary
