The razor has a thin handle ball end .The weight of the razor is 54g and is stamped Made in Canada. I'm not sure who wrote inside the lid of the box.The date code on the razor is 022070 . I've been trying to control the RAD but I couldn't pass this lot up today. I don't have an adjustable injector after all. I think the Gem is a Clog Pruf and it looks a bit rough. The Slim looks decent. For $18 shipped, I think it might not be a bad haul. I guess we'll see when they get here.
A fab throne for Sir Grapefellow?!! Rarin'! tonsor = barber (Latin). But "tonsorial" makes me think of tonsillitis, and then my throat gets itchy From Goins' Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings: F.A. CLAUBERG & CO. Import company 27 Park Place, New York City Used trademarks: "HALBERD", "THE MIKADO", "IMPERATOR", "TONSORIAL GEM", "RAZOR MAN" ca. 1885-1926.
Such a great piece of family & shaving history! Am new to straights, so take this with a grain-- Blades by Wade & Butcher (and associated companies) remain popular with collectors & wet-shavers due to their craftsmanship & the quality of Sheffield steel. This site has history & cutlery markings that help date your blade: Wade & Butcher It sounds like your mark looks like this . Regulations changed around 1890, so having England" after "Sheffield" would suggest a manufacture date of 1890-1920 for your W&B. Here are some Restoration Tips & Resources. Perhaps you could also post pics in the Razor Resto section to get input from the experts? Btw this really helped me with the lingo:
Maybe About 30 -50 ish Ikeep the ones I like to use or have someother intrest like this one , I also picked up a gold plated short handle tech . which in the case has badger brush and shave stick . also inside the case was 2 Macey's blades so i don't know if that was where it was bought from.
You should post some pics in the medicine cabinet section sounds like a great collection, you soon got to those kinda numbers lol. (That said I would not be that far behind if I didnt sell some, lol) I'm about 20 ish with Very few as good or as rare as yours.
Palmolive and Gillete Menthol Creams and a Palmolive Stick from Bull Goose. Great service and shipping from Phil. It's gonna be great Menthol Monday looks like!
We'll see how this one cleans up. Just got it off eBay for $14 ($10 + $4 shipping). It was a bit more than it's probably worth, but it's a 1958 first quarter (D-1) birth year and quarter razor.
Looks like it'll clean up just fine. I'd say that's a good price for a birth year/quarter razor. You could get it rhodium plated
IT CAME!!! This golden Schick 500 Injector came today! I have cleaned it up and it is beautiful! It came with instructions that were printed in the Netherlands. I will be using this one tomorrow.
