Just "won" this lovely Aristocrat on EBay.

I am slightly embarrassed to admit that I had one of these and sold it to fund a new straight razor a few weeks ago.

None of the other razors I've sold have been missed. Apart from this one...

Hoping the rough look on the doors is just soap build up and it cleans up shiny and new - the handle looks in good nick.

Anyhoo, I'm a happy bunny at this point :D

Can anyone identify this? I think it's a toy. I've seen play shave set's with brushes like this.

Yeah I'd never let this one go again now. I regretted the first one completely!

To hazard a guess ... I've seen that style, but not that color; I'd say either a Stanley Home Product from Westfield Mass. or a Century.

A Tam O' shanter hone mounted in a very nice box (a Mauchline???) with label and stamped inside. The stone measures 6 1/2 x 1 3/4. The surface is typically specked with swirling of the grain. A nice snakestone that guessing is way over 100 years old

An Ever-Ready 300E. The knot is sparse, but doesn't look used. I may give it a go as-is before I consider re-knotting it. Any idea on what type of hair this is?

It’s boar. Give it a good soaking in some conditioner to soften and hydrate those bristles. It should be good to go.

While out wandering today I visited a local pharmacy. I was hoping to pick up Proraso Sandalwood AS lotion but he was out of stock. I've seen several members using the Proraso Preshave soap so I got that & a couple tucks of some good DE blades. Visited a Thrift store and found a handsome blue coffee mug for half a buck. Last stop was a Restaurant Supply store where I got three new 20 ounce plastic tumblers for enjoying sweet tea.

Several people have used the phrase "give it a good soaking in conditioner." What exactly do you mean? I think of "soaking" as "immersing in."

Get the brush nice and wet. Fill a cup or whatever you want to just cover the bristles stick it in swirl it a few times or minutes. Your choice. I leave mine in over Night then a good cold water rinse.

I put conditioner in a bowl, with a water soaked brush, and do a lathering motion and leave it in the bowl. After about ten minutes I'll do lathering against my palm and another soak for at least another ten minutes until I rinse it. Many variations, but that's just my way of doing it. If not good enough, I'll repeat it.

Soak just the bristles and do not immerse the whole brush. I used a conditioner and warm water mix and let it soak for a few hours. An overnight soaking will work well. I use an old coffee mug.

Got a call from one of my close by thrift stores. They were fixing to put on display a handful of recently donated items. I passed up a couple The Body Shop and an old Surrey brush, shave mugs that might have been coffee cups, and a Schick Krona. Here's what I brought home.
Wise Penny 04182018.gif The only thing missing was a pack of DE blades.

Caswell-Massey "Pure Badger Handmade in England" brush with a 22mm X 42mm knot that looks unused. The travel tube and faux ivory resin handle are in excellent condition. I'm guessing it's an older version since their current travel brush has a metal handle. It's got a fat knot compared to a Wee Scot (only 16mm) and won't know about quality until lather hits the beard. I assume they contracted out to have the brush made, but info is sketchy.

An H-2 Gillette Slim in user grade condition. It's brassy on the handle, but the doors, 1/4 turn lock down, and adjuster seem to be in working order. It'll get a test shave followed by decisions being made. If it can't keep up with the Fat Boy...

An early glass Old Spice mug series 05 (see Old Spice Collectables) from the late 1950's to 1960. No chips and the paint is bright. It'll go on the shelf with the other 4 to hold soap samples. I've found them a little small for lather building. That's what a suribachi bowl is for.

Art of Shaving Lemon Pre-Shave oil, Shave cream, & After-Shave balm. Sample sized so I'll get to try out their products for my first time. Knowing their price range this is as close as I'll get to their line. I figured the three for $1.50 was a deal.
