That's a great looking bowl! I ised to keep my Mitchell's Wool Fat in one of those, now it houses random samples of soaps I have. Good luck with the shave! Remember it will only get better, the more you do it!
Madame wanted to shoot me when the mailman dropped off another package today - this one came from Turkey from a great friend and a very special cat! 5x Arko Ice Mint sc tubes! (I love this stuff to pieces!)
I just got these today 5 more boxes of blue blades 3 boxes are date code C1 and two are B4 along with these stainless blades dated O2 anyone have any idea how they shave and the paper wrapped are un blued carbon W2 And these how can I tell if the ss is a tv special as it has a 1958 date code and I thought the black tip had steel or aluminum handles this one appears to be brass
Okay, I can answer both those questions, but you'll have to do a little legwork on your own. The TV Specials had different knurling on the handles than the regular SS's. It's pretty obvious if you know what you are looking for. But...I can't remember the knurling pattern, and I don't have time to look at the moment. The black tip razors are the same as all Gillette razors of that era, plated brass. The exception was the tip which is made of black plastic. On a very few razors, the tip was actually black painted metal. Gillette would not use plastic in their razors again until the 1970's.
Unless my eyes decieve me, it is indeed a TV SS Edit: As for the black tip: 1951 (W3): 43-g, aluminum handle with nickel-plated shoulder 1951 (W4): 46-g, steel handle with nickel-plated head 1952 (X1): 39-g, aluminum handle 1952 (X3): 45-g, steel handle with steel baseplate
Check out Razor #5 in the first post of this thread. It's a '58 TV. The lines on the handle run head to toe.
I saw Sunflakes post of his Muhle Rosegold R41, and decided I had to finally get the R41 I had been thinking about for a while. Then I saw that I could get a matching R89 and had to do it. Everyone needs an R89 right. I think I'm done for a while as I finally have an F4 birth year toggle on the way too. It needs replating but I'm cool with that.
A little bit more of pre-Christmas indulging - a new Mühle Classic 19mm shave brush with Silver Tip Fibre. Initially I was going to go for the 25mm but, in the course of some home work, I have read that this is a fantastic face lathering tool, better than my current 21mm Silver Tip Fibre and also better than its big 25mm brother due to the shorter loft, giving the Fibre a bit more backbone, less flopiness which is actually not really an issue with the 21mm but nevertheless, a bit of backbone in the right place is always a good think I say . And then, just for the fun of trying out something new, have added a puck of Musgo Real Lime Glycerin soap for the pre-shave face wash - am curious to see / feel the difference this one might make...
