Couple of super cheap things today to help me in the den. 2 vases that are just the right height to store tubes of shaving cream, and an extra large cappuccino mug so my wife can have her bowls back. Yes I know I need some metal tube keys, I'll hit up a few stores to try to find some soon. Tomorrow will be that mugs maiden voyage. I also grabbed 8 twist tight plastic tubs and grated or mashed a bunch of soaps into them so I can have everything stack nicely in my drawers. Thus far they are filled with: MWF, Williams, Vitos Almond Coconut, Proraso Green, Proraso White, Klar Kabinett, RazoRock MdC and RazoRock Chianti Lavender. Still have to label them, but that's a later this evening thing.
Way to get organized and safe some counter space. I wasn't sure what a tube key was. Googled it. Look pretty useful.
Funny part is: when I find some tube keys locally, they'll end up costing more than my new shave mug and cream holders combined Never thought the dollar store would have anything worthwhile here. I was wrong!
Not as far as I know. In my experience with my Arko tubes once I push the bulk of it forward it doesn't tend to go back towards the rear of the tube like metal ones do, so it's never been an issue.
Just got these items from www.shaving.ie: Omega ovangkol wood badger brush Semogue Owners Club cherry wood boar brush dark oak shave bowl Pashana Original after shave Croma Diamant blades (10 pack) Marvis licorice toothpaste Most of the items arrived in good shape but the Semogue SOC Cherry brush had a dent in the handle. Unfortunately, it was on the front too! Not really sure what to do yet. If this was a $12.00 brush I wouldn't really care but as far as boar brushes go, this SOC is quite expensive. I will wait a few days before I decide but I kind of wanted to use in Boar Brush week. What would guys advise? I would appreciate your opinion. Cheers, Lyndon
Nice haul there Lyndon, for me the brush would be ok, (mainly because it would take awhile to get it replaced, due to the holidays) and id really want to use it. But given the price as you mentioned I would give the company a call and see what they would be willing to do.
Not much of a haul, but I did manage to pick up a sample of the reformulated L'Occitane Cade Shaving Cream a couple of days ago. I knew they didn't have samples available, so when the gal who worked there wasn't looking, I squeezed a whole bunch from their "tester" into my coat pocket and got the hell out of there! Ok, it didn't go quite like that. When the gal came up to see if I needed help, I told her that i knew she had no samples of it, but I wondered if perhaps I could put just bit in here (pointing to an empty sample tub from Sephora). She wasn't sure if they allowed that, but after looking back at her manager who was busy with other folks, she stood next to me and said "Go ahead, I'll stand here and block". I squeezed enough for 3 shaves into my tub, thanked her, and told her I hoped it worked as well as the Cade shaving soap, which I loved. I understand this used to be great, then it was awful, and hopefully now it's great again. I'll report back next week after I've tried it. Even if it's great, I doubt I'll buy any at $28 for a 5oz tube.
I'd keep the SOC - the dents give the wood character IMO. I'm looking forward to hearing about that Omega brush though, looks like a big beautiful badger monster that is right up my alley. I'm not usually one for those handles but WOW I may need to order one.
Thanks Justin, there were three things that attracted me to that brush: the handle shape, the black colored bristles and the price. I have been looking at several brushes with the traditional barber shop professional style handle. I also really liked the color. So many brushes are dyed white and I don't know why. I find the original black color very beautiful. The price was €23.54 EUR (about US $31.00) which I though was very reasonable. Might not be able to wait until the end of Boar Brush Week before giving it a try.
I love my SOC boar. It sucks you have the dents, but they really won't affect the brush, and it is a damn fine brush, Lyndon. I have only used a different brush for 1 shave since I got mine about 8 months ago.......it is that good. If you have to get the dents fixed, so be it, but don't forgo the brush for it in the event they are out of stock or something. It is truly a special brush. At least for me
This is my first strop and don't know what to compare it too. I do however like it. Spent about a good hour with my straight working slowly trying to get my technique down.
Wow some of those prices are so much better than here in Canada. It would cost me $44 plus taxes, however that brush looks like it's still worth more than the price you pay.
I'd have to agree, that is a beautiful brush. Nice haul. And I have only heard good things about the SOC boar, and most other Semogue boars for that matter.
We opened our family presents on Christmas Eve and my lovely wife gave me some Art of Shaving Ocean Kelp Shave Cream, something I've really wanted to get but have held off doing so. She also gave me the Anthony Logistics Perfect Shave Kit, which includes: - 8.0 oz Glycolic Facial Cleanser - 2.0 oz Pre-Shave Oil - 6.0 oz Shave Cream - 2.5 oz After Shave Balm - 2 oz Facial Scrub - Toiletry BagI've tried samples of both the Anthony Shave Cream and the ASB and they are fantastic. Both products I planned on getting years from now, after I put a dent in my stockpile. Now I ask you...what are the odds that with 60 soaps and creams, she'd give me two things I don't already have? My 11 year old son gave me a book that he made in school. Included was a poem about razors. I'll have to scan that soon and post it here. Merry Christmas, all!
