ChiefShaver: The Black Long Handle cleaned up really well. The date code is "O1," which, if I'm reading the charts correctly, dates it to the first quarter of 1969 . . . the first year for production of this model. I'm looking forward to trying it tomorrow morning. The Super Speed has some nasty plating loss, but it cleaned up enough for me to find the date code . . . "E3." Again, if I'm reading the charts correctly, then it's a '59.
Won't be arriving for a few weeks but forgot I put a bid on this baby that I just won a few minutes ago. Now I can continue to be lazy and not send my New LC off to be replated since I have the exact twin coming in Rhodium!
Dad picked up this travel tech for me. The leather case is made in Austria, not sure where the razor was made. Any ideas?
Not sure where the razor is from either, it looks like a 1964 Travel Tech (Notched End Guards), the Marcas Regs is just Registered Trademark; made by Gillette to include the South American market from what I can gather.
Funny, I found these exact jars (bought the white lids instead if the red lids) at a Ross store in Winchester, VA. Great price for the pack of 4, and my brick of RazoRock ABCBA was split between 3 of them.
The Gillettes will have a letter and a number (1-4) on the underside of the head that tell you when the razor was made. The letter corresponds to the year and the number tells you which quarter of the year it was made in. Here's a reference chart. http://www.razorarchive.com/gillette-date-codes Another good source for identifying Gillettes is Mr Razor http://mr-razor.com/ Whoops, guess I should have read the rest of the posts before responding. Pardon my redundancy
The final 'haul' for me in 2013. A Clauss 5/8 (11/16?) straight razor that is in need of some minor clean up. The blade looks good and has a decent edge. A pretty generic shaver with basic black scales.
My last haul for 2013 came today too; my first boar brush - an SOC Cherry Wood. Can't wait to start breaking it in. Also got my LA Soap sampler pack, and used the Bay Rum - LOVED it...great scent and almost lathered by just looking at it.
Those SOCs can be a bit stubborn to break in, but be patient & you'll be rewarded with a great brush with über-soft tips! Bloomin' Boar SOC on the right...
That's what I hear. Having heard that from almost everyone, I think I will find the will to ride out the initial shaves while I wait for it to leave the caccoon and turn into a butterfly LOL
Last haul of 2013, some new soap containers from IKEA. I'm weening myself off shave creams as I've ignored soaps for too long and the most part. These are awesome! Now I just need the steel bars to wall mount these beauties.
They look to be those Ikea stainless steel 'grundtal containers'—nice! http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80102919/
They are really great. I have to buy a few more of them for my soaps to store. Too much soaps, not enough container.
Kevin is correct, Grundtal containers from IKEA. I was skeptical at first that I'd find some decent matching dishes for soaps however there they were! Real stainless steel as well so they won't rust like some of the cheaper container super-marts you find on the internet.
