The Haul: December 2022

For me, the RK blades do not seem as sharp as the Gillette Wilkinson Sword blades. So the first pass of the shave feels less smooth with the RK than with the sharper blade. But the second pass is more comfortable, and post shave, my face feels better with less irritation. I guess that is the classic trade-off between "sharper" blades and "smoother" blades.

The RK blades are also thinner than some other blades, working well in the Henson razor which bends the blade strongly. As I recall, Gillette Wilkinson Sword blades may also be thinner than some other blades, but not as thin as the RK blades.

 

Friday’s mail call is a Wolfman Christmas miracle. A few months ago I signed up on the waitlist for my first ever Wolfman Razor; the machinist that makes them only does a few at a time and these razors are highly sought after. Around thanksgiving time they contacted me that it was my turn to have my razor to be made. I opted for the Darwin handle with WR2 head with a blade gap of 0.95mm with a solid bar guard in basic polished stainless steel.

 

Thank you very much. Seems to be an interesting blade. I think I need to have a closer look where I can order an pack or two.

A new recruit to the unit. The Gillette bulldog military set. Looks good but a little dirtier than i thought. The brush is really brittle so no saving it ill just keep it in the tube.

Thursday’s mail call is from Maggard Razors. I got Abbate Y La Mantia Crumiro shave soap and aftershave as well as Le Père Lucien Rose De Pushkar shave soap.

 

Today's Mail Call: Rubberset Travel shave brush. I've restored maybe a dozen travel shave brushes and it's about time I keep one. The knot is pretty stiff, but seems like all it needs is a little soaking in hair conditioner...........

Update: I made sure the knot was very wet, poured a good amount of conditioner and worked it into the knot. I let it soak for about an hour and rinsed. and no, I didn't repeat it. Then I lathered it with shave soap and did lathering moves on my palm. Rinsed that off and after a few hours drying, the bristles are soft and not one shed during this process...............
