The Haul: January 10th - January 16th, 2011

Well, after months of debating, researching, asking and drooling... My new toy.. Nikon S8100.. nice, macro type photos of my razors are imminent... :happy102

Can't wait for it to arrive along with the tripod and bigger 16gb SDHC Class 10 memory card. Now to build a lightbox...

 

Nice. I need to get a camera at some point. I use my phone for less then spectacular results.

Nice haul this week. I picked up a cased set of Engstrom frame backs.



Found some of my favorite vintage blades and a silver Gillette blade box. Three bucks bought me 12 Wilkinson Light Brigades with the New Chromium Edge, a pack of British Wilks, a pack of Schick Super Chrome and Plus Platinums. I really like the Wilkinson LB and the vintage Schick blades too. I think they perform much better then the Gillette offerings I've tried.

 

That's what I've been using too, my phone. I figured if I'm going to collect nice razors, I should take decent photos. But I didn't want an $800 camera. I was looking for something in the $150 to $250 range and thanks to this month's special at Sam's Club, this one came in at $249.99. I picked it because it has the super fast shutter speeds normally only found on high dollar DSLR cameras. Additionally it's highly recommended for up close macro shots. And it's zoom is optical zoom, not digital zoom. Digital zoom kills an images quality the higher it's zoomed in. Optical zoom retains full quality.

I've heard great things about these blades but have never seen or used them. Savor those shaves! How long ago did they stop making them?
