I received this nice Old Spice Ship Grand Turk shaving mug today. It came as a gift from another TSD member. It was very kind of him to send it. He said he had 16 and that he would pick one out and send it to me. After he sent it, he was looking around and found one that he had forgotten he had. So he ended up with 16 anyhow. This is my first, and I am very happy to have received it. Good man, that John.
While researching knots for a couple of upcoming brush restorations I learned that TGN has a retail site here in the Phoenix area called Penchetta Pen & Knife (penchetta.com). I took a ride up there yesterday and met with Tony Turchetta directly. Tony was kind enough to help me view and hand select the two knots pictured below. He was quite helpful and a pleasure to do business with. Funny enough, I would have purchased two completely different knots if I had bought from TGN online. Seeing and feeling the available knots in person and mating them up with their future handles allowed me to select the best knots for my needs. While it is certainly wonderful that we can buy almost any wet shaving product with the quick click of a mouse, this experience reminded me that it's still good to do business face to face on occasion. If nothing else, you'll meet some nice people. The knot on the left is a 26mm TGN, 2-band Finest bulb, and the one on the right is a 20mm TGN 2-band Finest fan. You will see pictures of the restored brushes in upcoming weeks. - Don
Went to get haircut today, right across the walkway, same parking lot is an antique store, and a very nice one with reasonable prices it appears. I went in to see what they had new to offer and low and behold this.... Currently in process of cleaning this puppy up. cost 10 bucks, and although needs cleaning, no chips/cracks or discoloration other than dirt it appears. Haven't seen anything close online at this price, especially when you include shipping. Once cleaned should serve me well....
Not only one score today but two, went to mailbox and.... Glass bottle that i thought was lost, took almost 2 weeks to get, the tracking number showed acceptance of package 11 days ago and no activity since so a nice surprise...
