I had a very nice surprise in the mail today from @david of central florida . Thank you so much. I'm looking forward to using this soap since it's my first Fougere scented soap.
mine also, we'll try it out together. thank you so much for your work on my 400. you made it better than it ever was. I hope you enjoy the soap. d
Well another Soap Commander Fougere made its way to my home courtesy of David. I will get this into my rotation as well! Thanks David!
you sir are more than welcome also. my olive wood custom brush is a gdcarrington original that I'll use proudly for years to come. thank you.
Received my Mongoose today and was really excited - but right away I notice some rather deep grooves/imperfections in the top cap (see photo below). They are so prominent that I can feel them with my finger if I run it over the area. Not too happy and emailed them asking about it. Is this common with the Goose head? Close-up:
I have never posted about my purchases. I prefer to minimise the amount of proof of indiscretions the better. This one I have to share. I am learning how to shave with a straight and I really prefer the kamisori style handle of my CJB it is just too aggressive at this point in my learning stage. So determined I ordered a western grind kamisori from Portland Razors but the wait is many months so I ordered this Rasurper 6/8 wester grind kamisori. It came in a cool wooden box with powerful magnets to hold the razor in place. It is a hand forged carbon steel 1/4 hollow razor. The pictures do not due it justice. I will post about the first shave in the 30 day thread.
I've emailed him with the photo attached - surely this is not the way they are supposed to look right out of the box? I've also read other reports about this later batch having some QA issues - 'slashes' through the knurling on the handle for instance.
Apart from my rather disappointing Mongoose I also received this today from Connaught; A tube of Tabac hair cream for about half of what it would cost me in the US. The good: Smells great The bad: More of a brylcreem look and hold than the pomades I'm used to. Will give it a few tries though. A 100-pack of GEM, coated SS SE blade for 20-something dollars.
Also in the package from Connaught was one of the more positive surprises in quite some time as far as soaps goes - the i Coloniali Mango Loved the terracotta bowl and I can sort of see why it makes sense - the soap has a very earthy almost smoky, deep scent to to - absolutely mesmerizing. One of the more intricate and complex shaving soap scents I've experienced in a long time. But what was even more impressive was the performance - this thing lathers in no time and produces a fantastic slick lather that was a pure joy to use - and smell The 'Mango' in its name can be a bit misleading though. I believe it's there because it has Mango oil in it - but don't buy this soap if you are looking for a floral/fruity/sweet scent as this is a walking-down-dirty-roads-smoking-a-pipe-just-shot-my-dog kinda scent. If you check online for reviews of this soap it's hard to find anything but people praising it - and well, now I am one of them. This is a soap I will buy more of. The soap - in it's terracotta bowl can be found at Connaught for about $19.
Yeah it kinda reminded me a bit about that $60-70 concrete shaving bowl. It feels really nice and looks great on the bathroom counter. The soap however is the real winner - top notch!
