It looks just like mine here: http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showpost.php?p=326150&postcount=19 Very nice items for both of you.
Great hauls everyone. Although not as cool as the new TSD M.U.G. mug, today I got home and found two packages waiting on me. A pound of alum powder, a Speick Cream, a Speick Splash, and a tube of Ingram's Menthol Cream. I read somewhere in a thread here on TSD about putting alum in witch hazel, so I bought the alum powder, but now I gotta go back and find that thread so I know how much to use!
Hi Jeff. I'm not sure that alum is the right stuff. I see the site lists it as aluminum sulfate, and says it is used as a styptic and astringent. I just wanted to ask you to be careful trying it. Erik knows a bit more about the different types of alum. Hopefully, he'll chime in.
The alum sold as a pickling agent is typically Potassium Alum (the good kind), which would make it just fine. However, unless it is specifically stated you can't be 100% certain with testing it. A couple spice companies list what the alum is specifically and you could try finding a company website. Given it won't be anything worse that ammonium alum, if you can't find definitive information on a comany website I'd go ahead and make a small amount of alum solution in water and apply lightly after a shave. If it stings and/or smells like ammonia (many people describe the scent as cat pee), it's ammonium alum. If that works without irritation or ammonia scent for few days, I'd go ahead and use it as planned.
Good deal! Thanks for the info! If worse comes to worse and I can't use it, no big deal. I paid less than $5.00 for the bag.
What about aluminum sulfate? The website Jeff bought the alum from has it listed as aluminum sulfate.
After you find out whats happening with the ingrediants with that Alum, and I would think any pharmacist should be able to tell you whats up with the Aluminum Sulfate, Thumbs up or down... After you get that business taken care of, you might want to try that Lady Schick yourself...I've known more than one guy who had to score one for themselves after they had tried their wifes...Thats supposed to be one great shaver...) And love the scuttle, great color aswell, 2 thumbs up...
A Week Full Of Hauls! Happy Friday From Steamy Florida! It is official; Lakeland has broken all heat records for June! BUT, I LOVE IT! The more heat and humidity there is, the better! The humidity gives me substance to push against when I am walking, otherwise I might just fall down. So, here is today's haul: A puck of "Lardy Lad's Lusty Lather" from TSD Brother Diamondtim. Two brushes from Larry at Whipped Dog Straights Larry is all about helping out the New Wet Straight Shaver, and although I have a few straights, I have yet to shave with them. Larry is one of the most absolutely cool and straight up honest guy's I have ever met. But then of course he is a Texan, and I am from Texas, but really, I promise, there is no bias here. I have uploaded pictures of the soap and brushes before and after their first lathers with the soap from Diamondtim. They bloomed very nicely! That is SWMBO with her cool heart / corset / bow-tie tattoo holding the brushes before the bloom, and a little piece of my right forearm tattoo depicting a famous David Brinkley quote whilst lathering. That jagged line you see on the ship brush is unfortunately a crack. The brush handle is made of porcelain. The other brush has "Rubberset" stamped on the bottom of it. When Larry was re-knotting the ship brush with a badger knot from The Golden Nib, the porcelain ship brush cracked. Larry immediately emailed me about the situation, and we agreed on a solution, hence the Rubberset brush that I also received. He wanted to refund me the money on the ship brush and send me the brush for free. Well, that was a superb gesture, but I cannot take anything for free, so I suggested he send me a second brush, and so he sent the Rubberset brush. What Larry does not know YET, is that I turned around and sent him the full price of the second brush, just because he was so Texan about the situation. The end result is that I have two very cool re-knotted badger brushes with serious stories to tell. Happy Shaving Ya'll! Keep those hauls coming!
Here's my goodies that we bought at Bath and Body Works. I love the mentha body lotion, so cool and tingly on my legs after I shave them!
Great Haul Jeff...you will love the Erasmic Cream and that was my shave choice this am. I have a lot of the arko so may work out a trade later or I saved some to put in the grab box when it finally arrives.
