Japan (Nippon) has one of the world's greatest blade-making legacies. From katana to kamisori to all manner of fish knives, they produce some of the finest carbon steel blades mankind has ever known. Aesthetics are paramount in their paradigm of knife making.
Thank you. Feels a bit strange in the hand. I thought after the CJB a kamisori would feel quite natural. Not the same thing at all. LOL Same principle, different instrument. Will be interesting to actually use it for the first time.
I still need to pick up a Higo No Kami to go with my Opinel They are about $20 now but I fear they will go up once the last maker is gone.
Be sure to try modern Chinese Schicks. Ymmv, but I get 10 shaves easy from a single blade. I order them from walgreens website for about $7(U.S.) for a magazine of 7 blades. I order multiples of four, because they ship orders >$25 for free.
Yes. Definitely heavy and the balance point is just at the start of the handle. When gripped it feels very well balanced. Handle angle is a bit different too.
Sadly, Japan passed a strict weapons law around 2010 that outlawed carrying the traditional "farmer's knife" like the Higo No Kami. The Samurai didn't have tasers or pepper gas or full auto guns, and they didn't see these tools as a threat. But then again, back then most people were prohibited from carrying razor edged swords 24/7.
very nice haul today our own @Jayaruh has hand made me a shaving brush. it definitely looked like a million bucks. I couldn't be happier with it can't wait to use #7
