Got my TSD sample order in this morning: Commando Cocktail, Brut type, Asian Plum, Egyptian Spice, and Mango Coconut. All the scents are good and to my liking, but favorite scent would be the Brut Type, smells a lot like Brut, the Commando Cocktail is a beautiful scent as well.

Wow....cool. The only Gillette splash I ever see in stores in my area is the Cool Wave. I bought it last weekend. Nice aquatic type summer scent.

Received this surprise PIF from @targa88. The scent is fantastic and the performance was pretty darn good as well.

We've been to a local flea market this morning - and I found these

The grey frameback is marked "Golf", seems to be an old GDR razor ... never seen one like that before. It needs some cleaning, but overall it's in good condition.

The red one has pretty loose scales and some surface rust - any tips on how to remove that without damaging the gold ornamentation (is that the correct term?) ?

This one came from the 'bay. It looked bent in the pictures but the description only mentioned minor plating loss. Once it arrived, I could see that the plating was near perfect. I am guessing that whoever first had it, dropped it, bent it, and being unusable, just stored it. Could it be fixed? It was the T bar that holds the doors that was bent. the baseplate and handle were square. I set up some clamps and jigs, thought about how to straighten it, decided to try without disassembly and gave it a go. I applied a little force just with my hand so get an idea of how to apply a more controlled force. Took it out, set it up with some squares and wow. It was pretty close. I did it again and went too far. Yikes, this is how to break metal. So I carefully applied a little force the other way and done. It is now very close to straight. The doors open slightly unevenly but it closes up even. I will have to give some thought as to why it opens uneven. Any thoughts? The other thing is that it seemed too easy to straighten. It has me wondering if the rivets are loose.

What has worked for me is to clean it with some paint thinner (Varsol) and a rough paper towel. The cheap paper towels tend to be a little more abrasive. CLR works wonders but may destroy the gold. If the rust isn't deep, the varsol should do a pretty good job. Varsol is generally fine on plastics but try to avoid getting it on the scales.

My friend, Bruce, gave me this nice little Razor 'n Blades Gillette Travel Tech today. It came in a metal case with mirror. the case is in very good condition. The razor is a travel tech with date code J4, fourth quarter of 1964. The Gillette Stainless Steel Blade box had a used Thin Gillette Blade (R2, 1946) and a used Schick injector blade in it. The razor itself is in excellent condition with the cardboard blade intact.

The Thin Gillette Blade, date code R2, was made in the second quarter of 1946. The Thin Gillette Blade is 0.004" thick by my caliper. The original Gillette DE blade was 0.0065" thick.

I would call it a lovely piece of steel. Curious on the change of the handling tomorrow. But i will let you guys know all about it. Oh...before i forget it...the handle is compatible to the Rocnel SE-Razor as well.

@Skinny Rogers: That Handle looks amazong too. Would you like to tell me more about the handle and the Artisan behind it?

    Greetings
    Thorsten

Thanks. It was a total surprise. We went out for breakfast with him and his wife this morning, and he sprung it on me. Very cool.

Thank you - I'll try that. Though after closer inspection I'm afraid the rust is more than superficial. I guess that thing needs some serious work ;)

I plan to try it out later today with cold water! I've never owned or used a scuttle so I'm eager to try it out.
