Obviously I won't post a picture, but I shot a doe this morning at about 9 am. I made the shot at 70 yards with open sights through brush. It's not my furthest shot, but wasn't my closest shot either. I'll be having some deer steaks, chops, jerky, and summer sausage real soon.
Funny enough, an older friend of mine is going hunting this weekend. But, according to him, all he and his buddies usually get is a cold and some of them, a hangover.
Road trip! Hey, Rich. Meet me at my place, then we'll head on over Ryan's. Should be able to be at his place, grab a quick nap after the drive, then enjoy some o' that venison chili!!
Works for me. But, I must insist on: eat, nap, eat again. Ryan... got room for us and 30 or so of your TSD friends?
I guess it won't go to waste. I'm cooking the heart tonight too. I've never done it before, but Youtube is a good resource.
Yipppppppieeeeeeeeeeee - a nice little Haul which my dear friend Ryan sent! 1x Stirling Glacial shaving soap (smells so frigid and nice!) 1x Stirling Margaritas in the Arctic shaving soap (great tropical/minty scent!) 1x Weber DE (on loan for a few weeks) This young fellow is a such a special and precious friend - it's not possible for me to thank him enough.
Nice. What were you shooting? When I used to hunt deer, it was normally brush hunting with a .44 mag Ruger lever action. It's been years since I shot a rifle.
The only thing you can use rifles for in IL is coyote. I used a Remington 1100 .12 gauge. I'd say being out for 2.5 hours and killing out is a good day in my book.
I don't get to use much venison being I'm not a hunter. Good thing to have friends who are. Last season, I wound up with about 30-40 pounds. Made plenty of smoked venison sausage, jerky and the hunter's favorite: smoked venison meat sticks (think SlimJims, but better—no orange grease & mystery meat).
