The Haul: November 2014

After missing out on this make of strop numerous times on ebay (prices just escalated beyond my limit... $$$), I finally landed one. A Certifyd Red Imp #700c. Highly regarded by those who have used them, the Red Imp was the top of the line from a company that made a variety of professional barber strops: Certifyd. It is a thick cordovan shell with a linen second component. I wound up paying more than I really wanted, but still about only 2/3rds the price ones in this condition have gone for previously.

 

Just received 50 feather blades and 2 more mikes natural soaps.

Rose and cedar wood. Orange, cedar wood, and black pepper.

 

I bid on an imp not long ago. Knowing nothing about it, really. I quit bidding when it got to $18.

 

They'll pop up on occasion. Many are in pretty poor shape after years of abuse by barbers. Its rare to find one in very good shape; both the leather shell and linen component.

 

Couple of things I picked up this week. A good sized EverReady brush and a W Singleton (Sheffield) straight.
The razor is actually pretty hefty but the brush is so big it makes the razor look smaller than it is.
The scales are in rough shape but after taking the pictures I tried cleaning them a bit and revealed an interesting wave pattern that runs the length so I'm curious how they might turn out.
I was also taken by the box. I've never seen one that opens like an alligator so that was an extra bonus.

OMG! I got one in the mail today from my father-in-law for my birthday (coming next week). These are so cool! Took me a minute to figure out how to remove the blade.

No. It didn't come with instructions. If I can't find them online I'll take you up on that offer. I'll get back to you. BTW, according to my research, both your razor and mine are made in 1950. See the 2 digit date "50" next to RAZOR"?

According to the 'inflation calculator by year' that I just consulted, $15 in 1932 is equal to about $260 today. Not that I can imagine a device of similar quality being sold today at any price, but interesting trivia.

Got this today at a local antique store. Was a little dirty, cleaned up great.
