The only thing I would fault it on for a true pipe tool would be the pointed blade. As a knife/pipe tool combination it's really really nice. As a strict pipe tool, I would want a rounded blunt end scraper instead so as not to dig up the inside of the pipe. .

There is a rounded blunt end scraper on the back of the knife. Look closely at the second photo.


Edit:
There are two types of Laguiole pipe tools. The one I acquired which includes a blade, a scraper, a poker and a tamper. Then there are those with no blade, like the one below:

 

Sorry Yukio, I wasn't concentrating enough. I was picturing that as more as a tamper. I had something stuck in my mind like this.

 

Honestly, it works the same as my friend’s $5 tamper and Doc's nail. It’s just I like beautiful objects and I respect craftsmanship. Craftsmanship: a dying concept in France.
