The London Barbershop seemed pretty nice - it had a much better scent than the RazoRock Boston Tea Party but not as much slip or cushion. I may try the Orange Menthol tomorrow.
Thanks -- it may be spoken for by @PLANofMAN, though. It does give a very nice shave... Seemed a little more aggressive than my Merkur 34C.
I have found that RR has very nice slickness, but I have not tried the maggard and probably wont for a while=P but thanks for the info.
My beautiful GEM I bought from LifesShort plus some PTFE GEM blades. It is in actual gold! I only have seen the unplated ones so I had to get this one. Also the Grah Plumacher razor I also bought from him, which will be the first full hollow razor I use. I will put it away for awhile because the full hollowness intimidates me:
An unexpected outing today with the wife (nursery for plants & seeds for her winter garden); on the way home, I persuaded her that we stop by the local antique shop (I indulge her, she indulges me…..). Found a collection of about a dozen straights—many over honed and beyond salvaging. I did pick up 3 decent straights there: The first, A vintage H. Böker & Co. 'King Cutter'—some slight hone wear, but in decent shape. i've enjoyed the Bökers I've used so why not? It should clean up very nicely. Original box. Next was a Craftsman 9207, Richartz, Solingen, Germany. The razor was made by Gebr. Richartz & Sohne (GRS), a Solingen knife, shear and razor manufacturer. They are still in business today making pocket knives, kitchen knives and manicure sets. The blade is 11/16, square point, full hollow ground.Three-pin scales. In very good shape! Original box. The final one was a pleasant surprise. A vintage George Wostenholm & Sons IXL 8/8 (one-inch blade) with barbers notch. Full-hollow ground. Blade is in excellent shape—and weighs a ton! This is the largest Wosty I've come across. Needs repinning, and the scales may be salvageable. Should be a fun one to fix up! Saw one very similar (without the blade engraving) sell for $385 on ebay. So I've added three more to the 'fix-it-up' collection. Not a bad deal as I got the trio for $65.
I have had a number of Geo.Wostenholms pass through my hands. Very nice shavers! Some rather plain in appearance such as this one i'm working on: …others with more decorative blades as shown here in this old catalog, and the razor (depicted on the right) shown below the page; and another below that…. ..but you dont see may of the LARGE (1.o" or wider) blades with much engraving. Often they look like this: …so I'm kind of excited to work on and eventually shave with a fairly unique razor!
I'm sure you'll get to it eventually but if it was me I'd put the rest of my work aside and move the GW&S to the head of the line.
So true, John. My excitement over the GW&S has probably moved it up the queue. I've about six I'm working on currently, so hopefully I'll be onto it sooner rather than later….
Well I really like Old Spice in general, and comparing regular OS to the Lime I would say the the Lime tones down the scent and adds the Lime. So when I wear it I guess I still smell somewhat like an old man, but one searching for a Margrarita.
Ha, ha, ha! Although, I prefer geezer to old man. Put de lime in de Margarita, on the rocks with salt.
I ask because, SWMBO hates "old geezer smells." Of course, any old man smells she doesn't like turns into a PIF, soo, I may give it a whirl.
