    A1 (1955) for mine.

Those are two good looking razors you've got there.

Ah that's what the A1 is for.

Thanks very much. Just new to all this. I didn't even know what made a tv special special when I bought it  definitely think I'll try your method to give mine a shine

100 Blue Birds arrived today from Turkey (and boy were their arms tired!). They look like I remember. Have shaved the past 2 days with my jerry-rigged Bonded so it'll be a day or two to build up some worthy growth. I hope they shave as well as I recall.

Do a general search for Gillette Date Codes and you'll find two or three listings online that help you figure out when your razors were made. On mine the letter A refers to 1955 and the number 1 refers to the first quarter (Jan/Feb/March) of that year.

Got this Rubberset in today. I know the material is fragile but I pulled the knot and started cleaning it up. Don't think I can get the top much lighter without losing the letters. I added some weight to the base and filled it with epoxy. I may colorfill the letters (not sure yet) and will likely polish the base a little more. I have a finest knot sitting in it, will likely set this knot in it before I sell it.

It appears the Irma Shave Soap might be sold out. What is the scent?

I mentioned this last week in the waiting thread, but it arrived yesterday, so...

This was listed on eBay as a "Vintage Star Double Edge Razor".
    IMG_0108.JPG
It's actually quite the Frankenrazor, though, as the only thing Star about it is the case.

    IMG_0110.JPG
IMG_0111.JPG IMG_0112.JPG The head is an English Gillette "round pin, flat bottom" New. Achim's site shows one which is listed as being from 1946. The Tech handle is probably not the correct one as this type of head is apparently usually paired with a short knurled handle.

Some definitely plate loss, but not bad for 70 years. I assume that is Brass that I see underneath. (There was also a Zinc version of this head, but that looks somewhat different.)

Of course, now I need to find a Star razor to go in the case. :)

Still looks good, even with the brassing. Won't affect the performance, and just adds to the stories it has to tell! Happy "Star hunting"!! :)
