Looks great @Joewa! The most common handle profile is turned on a lathe giving a symmetric shape. There's no rule says you have to do it that way. The antler handled brushes I've seen in SOTD photos accept the irregular natural shape as Nature supplied the material. What species of wood? Is that a horse hair or synthetic knot?
Looks good there, Joe. Just be careful you don't get BFD (Brush Fabrication Disorder). I started simply and am now over 325 brushes.
I hope not, I would have too many and be forced to put them up for adoption.. I just started on I*V 2
I*V 2 has emerged from a bit of wood.. The wood was was a bit dull but the form is interesting. Technical: Wood: Manzanita Knot: 22 mm synthetic 50 mm loft Total height: 120 mm
I*V 3 has arrived and its a bit knoty.. The soft area in the ebb of the knot made a nice area to put your thumb Technical Wood: Manzanita Knot: 22 mm synthetic 50 mm loft Total height: 120 mm
I.V.4 Another knotty one gone big with a 26 mm knot.. experimenting with infilling the hollows Technical Wood: Manzanita Knot: 26 mm synthetic 50 mm loft Total height: 130 mm Infill: Copper Oxide.
Thanks. Any particular brand? I have been using Renaissance Micro-Crystalline Wax Polish with good results. I will make a post once I get the brushes completed. Again, good work.
I started with Howard Feed-N-Wax Wood Polish but have moved on to walrus oil wood wax its a bit less oily. If fate ever lines up I would like to try the Anarchist’s Daughter soft wax. it tends to sell out within an hour or two of being dropped on etsy.
I*V 5 Emerged from a knotty bit of wood. the hollow was filled with turquoise powder. Technical Wood: Manzanita Knot: 22 mm synthetic 50 mm loft Total height: 130 mm Header
