FedEx tracking says that my Irisch Moos is sitting on my doorstep as we speak. Curse the blasted 8-hour work day!:angry019 There will possibly be another package in the mailbox from Georgia (from a certain member -cough- Shawn -cough-). So today may be a very nice day indeed!
It has been very much my pleasure to experience the Moos with you folks here. You are very welcome, Churchill! I'm glad I've been able to provide the service. I really look forward to hearing your opinions of it and in a year I think it will be a rare den that isn't occupied by this soap. I think it creates a fantastic tandem with Tabac and I imagine not too much time will go by before we start seeing pucks. One can only hope.
maybe we should start a letter/email campaign to get them to offer it in a bowl now. It might be ready 2 or 3 years from now. Here is the contact email listed on the Irish moos website international@sir-irisch-moos.de
Well, once you gents get a shave or two under your belts be sure to post your thoughts. I'm going to put up a Review and link to this thread for discussion. I agree w/ Zen. I think this is going to become a niche favorite. EDIT: Nevermind. I see a couple other users have a review up already. I'll still link the review to this thread. Good job fellows.
Keep it up. I asked them about it last month. The response..... "Dear Mr. Campbell, At the moment we do only have a Shaving Soap and Shaving Cream of Sir Irisch Moos. Please see attached image. We are not planning to change the packing. Hoping to have been of service to you with this information, we remain with best regards, Stefanie Heupel" I will continue to send emails. And maybe pester them a little. It's fun for me.
Nope, I only have two (well, it's gonna be 3 on monday ) different stick-versions. I have the old one by Muelhens (50 grams) and the new one made by Mäurer & Würtz (100 grams). The bowl-version has not been in stores for many moons now!
Where did you dig out that picture??? here's a comparison-shot. Old version on the left, new on the right:
I like that the soap is now twice as big, but I kind of like the look of the old soap container, with the slits in the top for (I assume) allowing it to dry. Initial impressions after 1 shave: The smell of the soap right out of the box is pretty strong - stronger than most triple-milled soaps. It definitely does have a mass-market bath soap smell. Kind of fresh, but with a hint of spice in it (to my nose). Face-lathered up fairly easy with my Rooney 1/2 Super - lather didn't erupt from my brush as quickly as some (I am only comparing to other shave sticks that I have used, which include Speick, Palmolive, and Erasmic), but wasn't difficult to generate. The lather is not as thick as some, but it was slick, and covered well. Scent was still very much present, but somewhat muted. I have to admit that I was expecting a "fresher" fragrance - this is somewhat fresh, but somewhat of a warm fragrance as well. I would lump it in with Speick in terms of the fragrance (not scent, but heaviness/lightness) - it seems like a good "fall" fragrance. The shave was very comfortable. I used a Fatboy set on 4 with a new Astra superior platinum blade. I did my usual 3 pass shave with some touch-up on my chin, and then I followed up with my sample of Alt Innsbruck that Shawn/1969Fatboy sent me - no noticable burn when I rubbed on the AI (admittedly this was my first use of the AI, so I don't know how much of a burn it has). So that is what I have so far. Overall, a nice shave. Definitely a good alternative if you are like me and don't care for the scent of Tabac. And it really is a big chunk of soap. Nice deal.
Klaus, I dug for that one It was one of your older pics of your shave den from a while ago For some reason I thought you had the bowl I figure you had everything else
Hiya, At the risk of partial thread derailment, let me just mention to the new members another method besides milling a stick into a bowl. Yeah, there's no need to do that, if a stick format doesn't appeal to you. When using the Arco stick, I'll slice a very thin disc from the soap and adhere it to the bottom of a bowl with a little hot water. It sets up in a few hours, and then I just swirl my brush on it as I would other soaps. I haven't tried the Moos stuff, but I'd imagine it would work out as well. Instead of milling the whole stick into a bowl, you keep it fresh by using it only as needed. Plus, it's makes giving out any samples a lot easier. Heh, mainly though, it's easier than milling and does work quite well. The other alternative is to cut a 1-2 inch thick piece off the stick and use it as you would a regular puck. It should be fine to use in a bowl you'd use other soaps in. Well, this is old news to lots of members, but a few of you may not have heard of these couple options. Maybe it'll help one or two readers. Martin
You guys are sooooooooo lucky--I want so much one of those Irisch Moos sticks, and I have no way to get it!!!! :drool :drool
Shipping to Canada is fairly cheap. The last package I sent that was under 8 oz was only $7 I believe? I believe Mark at Superlather would ship USPS to you
