Thanks @Hodge . My guess is the hand-turned handles will have variance. I wonder what Handle Height becomes a “Nano” or WS 1, and when does the variance stay at a Wee Scot or WS 2?
Here are some older measurements from a few years ago The Original Wee Scot Brush Handle Height: 21.50 mm Handle Diameter: 15.94 mm Vintage Wee Scot 1 (Sample A) Handle Height: 24 mm Handle Diameter: 20 mm Vintage Wee Scot 1 (Sample B) Handle Height: 24 mm Handle Diameter: 21 mm Vintage Wee Scot 1 (Sample C) Handle Height: 26 mm Handle Diameter: 21.5 mm Vintage Wee Scot 1 (Sample D) Handle Height: 27.5 mm Handle Diameter: 20.5 mm Wee Scot 2011 (Modern A) Handle Height: 31 mm Handle Diameter: 24 mm Modern Wee Scot 2 (Modern B) Handle Height: 31 mm Handle Diameter: 23 mm Modern Wee Scot 2 (Modern C) Handle Height: 30 mm Handle Diameter: 24 mm So there certainly seems to be some variation!
Here is my first Somerset Wee Scot, or Wee Scot 2 depending on when Simpson stopped identifying the middle-sized Wee See as a WS2. 14mm knot 38mm loft 30mm handle height 24.5mm handle Diameter Here is my Somerset Wee Scot "Nano" made for Hoffritz. 12mm knot 34.5mm loft 27.5mm handle height 20.5mm handle Diameter Here is a side-by-side of 3 different Wee Scot Handles. Each have 30mm handles, but different shapes. And here are the 2 butterscotch beauties, side-by-side.
I recently won a boxed wee scot on ebay, I only wanted it as a curio/ travel brush....it cost £8 in total.
A beautiful example and comparison of a vintage Wee 1 & 2. Now you just need to find an old butterscotch Case (Wee Scot 3) to complete the set.
Right. the challenge being a Wee Scot 3 instead of a Case 1, Case 2, or Case 3. I thought the WS2 would actually be a WS1.
Yeah, it would be a Case 1, with the tube. Good luck with that. An original butterscotch tube will be the hardest part to find. Wee Scot 3 was just the internal company name for it. It was never sold as a Wee Scot.
@PLANofMAN Is Vulfix owned by Simpsons? In 2011, I bought what I thought was a Wee Scot - as in, the well known shaving retailer I purchased it from labeled it a Wee Scot - but turns out it's a Vulfix Old Original 2190. Looks just like a Wee Scot (not the CASE version) with a 19mm pure badger knot. And it came with a cylinder case.
Hold up, you want to run that last part by me again? Head shavers generally opt for bigger brushes. What makes the Wee Scot a good choice for head shaving?
For me, I find the bigger brushes generate thicker lather. I prefer a thinner coating so the Wee Scot excels in that regard. Don’t get me wrong, if I had to keep only two of my three Simpson Brushes, I would keep the Berkeley 46 and CH1 in Best all day long. From a performance standpoint, I would be totally fine with the Scot. If it didn’t deliver, I wouldn’t use it. Best wishes, Paul
