I was thinking ....would it be possible to put up a round of white for the first couple of passes to help reduce and buffer my trouble spots then bring in the pink pastes for the 2nd and 3rd form + finishing? I guess I can experiment here.
Sure why not. You can customize and adjust as desired. Now remember that the forms are a guide for the newbie while he learns to shave using the method. Once you become more confident and proficient you can shave without following the forms to the letter. Raf
I've been mixing the #3 Red with the Sandalwood aromatic--man, it's nice. Followed up with frankincense tonic and Sandalwood conditioner (Insert Homer Simpson lusting after donut sounds here) Cheers, j
I mixed the #1 and #2 yesterday with some pretty nice results. I will keep playing with it to see how it goes. Mixing Activator throws in another way to adjust the velocity and buffering. Tried a batch this moring with the #1 and one of Mama Bear's soaps with a straight. Worked really well too. Now there are even more ways to vary the scent. So many choices so little time to shave! What is this stuff? Is paste another word for shave cream? i've heard of method shaving but haven't really read that much into it.
It would probably be a lot quicker (and clearer since you can see it) if you go to Youtube and do a search for Mantic's videos. He does 3 on Method shaving so you can get an idea and see most of the pieces in action.
Charles has actually been doing some testing with his own shaves by trying different pastes. I asked him about it today and here is his response (quoted with his permission): "Our understanding of the nuances between the various pastes will clearly be an evolutionary, empirical process of considerable duration. I have already indentified ne very specific differendum, i.e., it is important to match the paste to a specific blade or category of blades. I have been able to establish that by matching specific pastes with compatible blades, the net result is a dramatically superior reduction/finish result. In order to best eliminate unnecessary variables in this process, I am switching blades on a daily basis. Here's my test process: With several mini pots of unblended pastes on my vanity I proceed through this neat experiment by simply dipping some paste and cutting it through the forms. After repeated efforts in this direction I continue to prefer some combination of the 2T, white/pink; I really enjoy cutting this specific range. The white creamy base carries the faster pink topper, beautifully. Conversely, I don't like the red by itself; however, when a small amount of the red is dropped into some white, amazing blade action results. Right now I can't be any more specific because much of the what happens disappears in a kind of black box void. The three tier, unscented composite is definitely the workhorse of the HydroLast wet mix system--amen. On balance, it is probably the single best cutting media I have ever produced. Even though stacked up, it still peaks up extremely fast. The stuff is absolutely fantastic. I start every newbie on the 3TU paste. Anything faster and they always chew up the 3rdQ seam. Not so, with the composite. The stuff can carry a chain saw blade." Straight from the man himself
Mike, now we know why Charles shaves twice a day. I bet he would do more if he could. So many things to experiment with. I just used the #1 white for 2 days in a row and I am going to go back to the 3T tomorrow morning to see how much closer I can get with it. Can't wait till I can get better at this to try some of the higher velocity stuff. I don't want to kill myself just yet.
