But, as GD reminded me, not all handles fit. You're going to like the resulting shave, it was actually very pleasant. Let us know what you think!

Yes, the two bars on the bottom of the base plate are the limiting point of the diameter of the top handle. When you find the right handle, you will be surprised at the difference.

I was going to use tge handle from my Utopia, but it is to wide. However, I made a Harbor Freight center punch handle and that works perfect with the Stahly head, IMHO.

I tried to compile a list of what people have mentioned that they use with the Stahly head and it seems to fit a lot of handles.

    Here's what I gathered w/in a few mins...

Razor handles that can be used with the Stahly head
    ATT (all handles)
    EJ DE89
    Harbor Freight center punch handle
    iKon (most all handles)
    Merkur 1904
    Muhle R89
    Parker 91R
    Tradere
    UFO
    Weber Bulldog and Wave/Bamboo handle

...at that point I decided it might be easier to list handles the head does not fit on :)

If I get super bored one day maybe I'll sit and try to fit it onto every single razor handle I have...buuuut....let's just hope I don't get that bored.

Tomorrow the plan is to shave with it on it's original, vibrating handle....

Had my first shave with the Stahly this morning and it sure is a mild razor - it almost doesn't feel as if there is a blade in it.
I did two passes - the first WTG where I had the motor going (I had to re-wind it twice during that pass) - and the second pass, ATG, where I shave w/ the motor turned off.
Quite honestly I couldn't tell much difference as far as the shave goes. It gave a nice, mild and very close shave regardless if it was vibrating or not.

Next I'm curious to try it out on a couple of different handles as the original handle does feel a tad too large and heavy (and not to mention vibrating) for me to hold it comfortably.

Add to that list the "Matador El Gordo Negro" handle from Razor Blades and More.

I do prefer the iKon Bamboo handle over the shorter "El Gordo Negro" because it allows more control.

Since reading your article I've been trying to score a Stahly. There are actually several of them on ebay, I just don't want to pay the price for one in top condition, since all I really want is a shave ready head.
Based on the handles you've already tried and handles I've tried on Gillette and other razors, I would say almost any Gillette, Cadet, Sabi, Parker or Griestshaving(either the GS2 or the "FAT" brass) handle should also work with the Stahly head. Those nice looking Star handles may work also.:)

on my radar for sure,I think they are neat.. ahead of their time.
I'm gonna use that handle with an open comb Gillette head, that aught to make it growl.

I think it's easier to fit the Stahly head onto another handle than it is to place a head onto the stahly.
The reason for that is how the vibrating mechanism works - if you see in the photo below there are notches on the Stahly baseplate that allows for a longitudinal movement when the razor vibrates.

Now, it might be possible to fit a non-Stahly head onto its body..but I don't think you'd be able to get it to vibrate :)

OK, now I'm curious. I've got to try another head on the Stahly handle. But the "nice shave" factor of the Stahly is the head. Wonder if the blade will start getting out of line? Wonder if a Goodwill head would work.

I just can't catch a break on getting a Stahly. :angry019: A supposedly non-working Stahly I had a $9 bid on, just jumped up to $26 with 2 days left. I think I just may try to hunt one up in the wild or just forget about it. :happy102:

Decided to move on from the rather bulky, heavy and not to mention - vibrating body this morning.

I tried out some handles but settled on the Tradere.

When I shaved with the original Stahly handle I didn't get that 'near magical' feeling of how great a head this is. It even nicked me once or twice (which was surprising as it's a rather mild head) - BUT when I shaved this morning with the head on a less-odd handle WOW.

The head gave a fantastic, clean and smooth shave. No nicks/cuts. It's surprisingly efficient for something this mild.
Someone wrote somewhere that "it's like there's not a blade in it" - and I now fully understand what he meant. It's that mild - but makes the stubble go away in no time.

Only drawback: the head does clog up rather frequently so it had to be rinsed a few more times than I normally do. Not a big concern of course.

Happy that I got to discover why people love this head so much that they buy a whole razor just to get their hands on it....

This morning the Stahly head ended up on a Wolfman-7 handle and it performed as well as it looked :)
    Clean, efficient and very satisfying.
So, to all of those people across the internet that hailed the Stahly head to be one of the best ones around...I might have to agree with you, it's one heck of a head.
On the original handle......maaaaybe not so much :)
