Hey guys new to the forums. Just ordered a puck of Haverford to pair with the Tru Gent cologne and aftershave from Avon my wife got me. I seen Stirling Gentleman was also a tobacco scent. Did I choose the right one?
Welcome to the Hotel Stirling--you can check out any time you like... but you can never leave Awesome write-up and report, Jay!
I get some burn too, but still splash it on and focus my mind on the heavenly scent. The burn dies off quickly for me. I have no idea which essential oil is the hot one, but I’m ordering a couple large bottles if it ever comes back.
I have no idea what Tru Gent smells like (or that Avon was still a thing!) but BOTH Haverford and Gentleman are fantastic scents. Gentleman is a better daily scent. Definitely a tobacco, but lighter and morphs into a sweet and almost powdery scent after a few hours (with my chemistry anyway). Haverford is richer, heavier, with strong vanilla notes, and smells more like a great pipe tobacco blend. It’s a dupe of a Tom Ford fragrance, and would be perfect for a hot date on a cold night. I believe Gentleman is a unique creation of Rod’s, and can be worn as a daily scent without becoming THAT guy.
Tru gent I believe is also a dupe of the Tom Ford tobacco scent. Sounds like I'll have to pick up both.
Haverford is the tabacco vanille from Tom Ford. Have tried it for the first time a couple of days ago. Strong scent that keeps lingering. Don't have the splash because of shipping restrictions. Verstuurd vanaf mijn GM1913 met Tapatalk
Ehhh LADIES and uh GENTLEMEN: To help celebrate Patriot's Day here in Massachusetts(Boston Marathon, parades all over the map-of Massachusetts that is(chuk yuk yuk)....we'll have the 2nd edition of this season's Stoylin Tony Awards nominations. The date: April 16. See ya then!!
You're spot on. I've had scents that I just knew would be hits that turned out to be duds, and stuff that I thought would be slow and they sell like crazy. Everyone's nose is different, but sadly not everyone understands or chooses to acknowledge this fact. Multiple times a week I get emails or phone calls to the effect of " I heard such great things about this scent, but I just don't like it. Is it possible I got a bad batch?" You just have to explain as politely as possible that not everyone is going to like every scent. I've spoken to Will at Barrister & Mann about this very thing, and he and his mom (she works with him) both expressed that they deal with the same thing constantly. It's one of the drawbacks of doing a business like this over the internet. You can't smell what you're buying ahead of time.
I think the Barbershop puck was my first ever Stoylin order. I had a good sense of what it probably would smell like, with all the Clubman A.S. I'd had over the years, soI just went for the home run. Glad I did.
I also have Shadow orchid just in. Anybody else tried this one? I like the scent on it. Floral dark notes. Verstuurd vanaf mijn GM1913 met Tapatalk
Just got that Haverford puck in the mail along with a complementary bar of the Haverford bath soap. Smells so good!
Look forward to trying that one in a near future order. Am really enjoying diving into these different scents.
I think that’s the general idea————hint at the dupes origin without waking the giant. Plus if you’ve ever watched Parks and Rec, the character “Tom Haverford” is an ultra fashionable dude with tons of swagger, who’s always trying to market some upscale product——————including fragrances. A brilliant reference by Rod IMO.
