This thread is dedicated to recent Straight Razor and Shavette acquisitions. It is not intended to be a place to post before and after photos, or shave related products. Pics are Highly encouraged, and if you wish to disclose what you purchased it for, go for it. This might add to the fun of the thread. . Remember, "If there are no pics, it must not exist". Please feel free to comment, and discuss about members acquisitions. Here is a simple razor I just received. It has potential, and looks good to me. It needs a little work, but, so do most of my razors. Razor- Swank H.W. Co. Warranted. "Perfection" 12/16th inch. $7.99 eBay.
I found this 7/8-15/16 Wostenholm IXL at a local Antique shop on Tuesday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This one should be arriving by early next week. I'm a sucker for many of these old Sheffields. William Greaves & Sons; estimate mid-to-late (pre-1890) 19th century. I really like the shape of blade on this particular model— 7/8" wide and very similar to one of my favorites (Wostenholm Pipe 7/8" -see lower photo). Both the edge and tip require some work. This one will eventually wind up in the 'Restoration' section of the forum. Hopefully by then, it will lose the paint splatter, rusty edge and abrupt nose. Wostenholm 'Pipe' (for comparison)
I was looking through Ebay for my first straight purchase, and in particular Robeson Shuredge straights as they came from Rochester, NY, were I am originally from. I did some research about the company and what I found out was they sold quality razors, but stopped after cheaper ones were coming in from Germany. Prices varied, but I saw this one and had it on my watch list. I was the only bidder and got it for $12.99. Now I'm no expert on straights, but I think that, that was a decent deal, it looks good anyway.
This razor is in transit now. I place the blame for this purchase on @mrchick. He purchased a razor from Art Razor and reeled me in by saying how it was not his favourite. I ordered a Saga and here are the pics from the maker. Brian is a bad influence, spreading this craziness.
That is a gorgeous razor! It does have a somewhat menacing look to it, but it makes it that much cooler.
Absolutely beautiful. So, since it was made in the Ukrainian, does it qualify as a "Russian Razor"???
