magari da chi non conosce le cozze, you look for a photo of a mussel and decide. I don't need it. I live in Italy
I hope that Blade Cancer doesn't go too deep. I've had run ins with that type of rust before, and it wasn't good, near the bevel. Keep us posted on the restoration. Fingers crossed for you.
Yes the cancer is near the bevel but I sharpened it and used it today and got a good shave. I'll call it a leopard razor
I have some razors with similar corrosion. Under a microscope, it looks like curved lines formed from round dots.
The razor has spent a lot of time on stones and shaves very well. I don't have a microscope to see, the edge is very good.
I not only find rusty razors but also unicorns! goedecke "prima" 15/16 the reverse of this tang reads: Hochwertiger Edelstahl u Schliff Solingen (High quality stainless steel cut in Solingen) Too bad someone clumsily tried to clean it and scratched the screen printing. I'll try to see if I can polish it without erasing anything
Shumate Razor Co. Austin Texas 11/16th Extra Hollow This came in the mail as a surprise. Thanks @Steve56 . It is very sharp, and only needed a good stropping to bring out the great edge, put on by Steve. I cannot quite make out the letters on the tail, and what they mean(XDS).
My love affair with Torrey razors continues. $52 shipped. Seller's description: "Lot of 7 straight razors made in Worchester[sic] Massachusetts. 6 made by the J.R. Torrey Razor company, 1 made by Worchester[sic] Razor Co. Four of the J.R Torrey razors feature stamped markings, two had acid markings that have faded/been damaged. The two acid marked razors will come in their original box. Worchester[sic] Razor Co. razor appears to be partially blued. Razors do not show any sign of being sharpened recently. Unable to locate markings to signal date of manufacture." Between the two Torrey razors I already have, I can make a good dent towards a seven day set out of whatever is usable in these. I figure two or three of them aren't worth trying to save. I probably paid more than I ought to have, considering the condition they are in. Edit: Foolish me. Forgot to post this, as it comes with it too. A neat bit of Torrey literature that would have been enclosed with any new Torrey razor, and free with inquiry along with a catalog during the gilded age and through the roaring '20's. They pop up from time to time, but are still a fairly rare bit of ephemera. Edit 2: okay, so they aren't that rare, having spotted near a dozen more on eBay. Chalk it up to both being the largest straight razor manufacturer in the U.S., and operating longer than most, ending in the 1960's IIRC. Wade & Butcher had a similar timeline, the difference being that W&B's earlier razors were better than their modern production. For Torrey, their quality was consistent to the end as best I can tell. One razor case was marked "LVI $2.50" which translates to "56" e.g. 1956. The razor was a "Our 136." It's a fine razor.
