It took a great edge and gave a nice shave. It is the first decent straight I have found for a fair price in over a year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Just got a Dovo Best Quality on the 40% off sale at Straight Razor Designs. Gave it a squirt of isopropyl to clean off the oil. ......note to self for future.... NEVER hit celluloid scales with alcohol, they will disintegrate before you finish stropping! The good news is that I get to learn rescaling. It'll be just like having a new 'new razor'. No...... I am not gonna post pictures for you to laugh at. Bugger up your own. Maybe I'll put up a pic if it turns out ok.
The Astrale has ebony scales but I know from cruel experience what you’re talking about... I’ve made the same mistake with a Swiss Army knife trying to clean the blade with acetone... that red scale plastic just dissolves like chocolate in a hot car.
Having finally tired of the same old conversation, any Dovo Best Quality that leaves our shop bares loudly in adjoining text surrounding the carton '...NEVER open this razor >240° {this puts pressure upon the inside of these scales}, NEVER apply pressure outside the pivot pin {easy to do while stropping}, and _NEVER_ use any solvents including isopropyl alcohol near scales' The good news about those scales is if there's a tighter-pinned option in straightrazordom I have not seen it. They can sure get tight as heck. Good for beginners. And these Dovos are notably tighter than the other makers' celluloid/resin scales which do not break apparently. The bad news about those scales is one only need do any of those three 'nevers' above once and they'll almost surely break, but to be fair to them it is also true that they can't/won't break without doing any of those three no-nos. It is just that one can do any of those three things to any other model and there is zero concern beyond maybe losing some decorative gold with the solvents.
Well it's been awhile again since I have posted and I have gotten a few razors in that time. 2 Wade and Butchers from gssixgun a couple of Jon Engstrome Frameback razors. Some parts razors I got for the scales, But the one I'm most proud of I received from a friend all the way from Hong Kong Along with some more knots for my T=400 Brush. It's a 7 day Kropp straight razor set, my first 7 day straight razor set! I'll post pics of the other razors later! I am so proud and honored to have this set now! I will be sending it out to Gssixgun to have him hone them up very soon. Can hardly wait to shave with these fine blades!
I’m new enough to the world of SR that I didn’t even know these sets existed... not only are those sets beautiful to look at, they’re just a really neat concept. I bet they hold an edge a lot longer than an every day razor too. Apparently only TI makes these sets nowadays. I’m sure any custom maker would be happy to whip up a set though!
Thanks Keith! I think so Not necessarily longer, just seems that way. Because you would only be using each one once a week, not just one every day for a week. You'll find one mrchick when you least expect it!
Dame, Stoddard, & Kendall. 7/8th in. Boston Got this for a song. It has plenty of meat on it, and is just the right size, that I like. I own another of these, and know they take a wicked edge. Another minor project razor.
I ran across a 7day set locally for $850. They had real Ivory scales and I surely would have bought it, if I wouldn’t have ended up homeless and penniless with my 7 new razors
I have a Shulze 7 day set, this has inspired me to break them out after I go through this particular rotation. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
