Bunny is in the house! Thanks to Chris (@Bama Samurai ) for the fresh blades to try in Tom's (@twhite ) Bunny razor, being passed around and administrated by Vince (@Rufus T. ) on the West Coast Tour. I appreciate having a chance to level up my skill using a Schick Type J prior to taking the Bunny for a shave. Coming off a 30 Focus using straight razors @Bama Samurai set me up for some of the best shaves so far. I'm rethinking a FatBoy being my best razor because injectors are that good. Using the Mild comb with a good lather I didn't nick myself. Finding the sweet spot took a couple swipes. After an all over WTG pass I found my grip to be much like using a small paint brush. Even going back for touch ups I'm not having any irritation. No problems with the smooth handle. I did have a moment of "What do I do now?" when installing a fresh blade. Fortunately others have paved the way to being careful about dragging the blade across the stops. Riding the cap is part of the learning curve. Next shave I hope for even better results. I'm looking forward to several more shaves so I can use the "Dolphin Smooth" description!
Happy the first shave went ok for you. It will only get better from here. Have fun. Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's great to see it went well. Are you going to try XTG, or ATG passes? Is the mild comb aggressive enough, or are you going to try another comb?
I didn't give the play by play in full detail. My regular routine is WTG, ATG, XTG, followed by touch ups. Generally I make a couple extra passes around my chin, and under my jaw near ears. Those clean up passes are places that the others just don't quite get it all. I thought I'd do next shave still using the Mild comb. As this was my first use I was developing my grip and finding where the cap is so I could ride it. The flat end of the spring that holds the blade in is a small surface. I'd compare it to straight shaving with a 3/8 or 4/8 inch blade. Or like a narrow spined shavette. With the handle on not wrong, but different. I haven't tried a Pain Stick or kamasori but I'm thinking it's similar finding the correct angle to master the tool. If my next use of the Mild comb goes well I'll upgrade to the NotSo. I use a FatBoy on #5 with a Feather blade so I'm thinking I can deal with a bit more aggression. When I opened the tin that the Bunny fits so well, I was surprised that it looked smaller that I expected. That was just my initial impression. Like most good tools it is right sized to do the job intended. Here is a '59 FatBoy and a Schick type J for comparison.
Think of it like a mini 30-day Focus. Take your time and get to know the Bunny well. Respect it, understand it, enjoy it. I very much appreciate @twhite opening up the pass-around to shavers of any experience level. It's a great opportunity to share. I know we're all enjoying our chance with it. Cheers! RT
Well said Rufus. I will tend to learn more from the less experienced injector users. on obvious short comings. the experienced ones can give me great comparisons and the finer nuances of it. Most of all I get a kick out of sharing my tinkering with others. Tom
B-V3 shave #2 Variables? Variables? Well yes, a couple. New - to - me items, courtesy of @Marverel; Proraso Pelli Sensibili Sapone While I'm a fan of complex strong scented tallow soaps, this is a good quality product that I'd recommend to new shavers. The Body Shop's Synthetic Brush This brush has a great scrubby feel, splays well, and releases lather well. I'm convinced after one use. I will own more synthetics. Already knowing my grip, having a good idea of the correct angle of attack, I WTG, ATG, and XTG'd into what finished as a DFS or better. A bit of obsessive clean up chasing the baby, and I am a happy camper. Rinsed and swiped with an alum block trying to find some sting. Nothing but smooth. Still have a few places to work out my details but Tom's best gets it done. I wonder if/when there's a B-V4 how it might be improved. I'm not having slippery grip issues, and I'm a messy shaver. Only issue I see so far is the learning of installing a fresh blade. (edited to add photo, Yo)
B-V3 shave #3 Williams Stick (circa 1960 or so) The Body Shop Synthetic brush Suribachi Bowl B-V3 @ Wild & Schick blade Lucky Tiger AS & Balm If you've tried current Williams Mug Soap, this isn't it. I'm enjoying what I have left of it. Which is a little less because I shared a chunk with a very deserving Mentor. I hope he makes lather "with lazer like focus". After two Bunny shaves using the MILD comb I elected to skip NOTSO and go straight to WILD. Between a good learning time on a Schick injector & just a little experience with this prototype I felt ready. Best shave yet. No nicks, very little irritation, all over DFS, with a mostly BBS on all my easy parts. Couple more shaves and I'll be sending this unit to @ob1page for his evaluation period. Just about when I get her figured out, there she'll go!
Slow down Rick! The Bunny Creator suggested getting about 10 shaves each, you've had just 3 shaves!!! Now I know you are dedicated to your injector brethren, but take your time. More shaves will give you so much more perspective on the razor and feedback to the Creator. Besides, it ain't coming back!
Reality Check, gotcha. Like being on vacation and counting down the days to having to back to work. I'll enjoy not just a couple, but several more shaves! I suspect this positive feedback is flattering to @twhite , but this is Beta Testing. I'm looking for things to suggest for adjustment. I think I'll spend some time running blades through the mechanism as that's the one sticky spot I've encountered so far.
Please do I need to find the shortcomings, and you guys are the ones I am banking on. Just do not use it as a hammer Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
B-V3 shave #4 Stirling Mountain Man Soap from RazoBrite dish via @aelfred.t.allspa The Body Shop Synthetic brush via @Marverel The Bunny B-V3 courtesy of the Craftsmanship of@twhite Schick injector blades via @Bama Samurai Canoe AS, a gift from a Lady Friend This shave brought to me by way of a Great Community! The combination of Stirling soap and a very nice synthetic brush provided plenty of lather for three passes. A fresh blade took a couple tries to seat correctly. I'm going to go back and read others instruction on "Doing It Right". It's still a superior razor that gave a near flawless WTG, ATG, & XTG reduction. I did find a couple painless weepers that I attribute to a fresh blade and being over confidant using the WILD comb. After a cool water rinse & alum block swipe they disappeared. A handful of Canoe for that Barbershop fresh scent didn't leave any sting. Thanks to everyone that contributed to today shave!
Great write up. I am very interested in seeing how the blade sits right after installation. If it is no too much trouble can you take a few pictures and post them. Maybe we all can figure out a solution to this. Thanks Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
