Thanx for the response Steve. I am impressed too that you are remaining pretty calm considering there are some hot comments coming your way. Good on you!

It makes sense that you felt the razors look so good it is a shame to mark them. I can appreciate that. I think your idea to mark them though is great - and it will identify your work which is pretty cool really.

That is a lot of info to put on - RPSW - it will take a lot of room. You might consider just one of your initials like S or W - whichever is easier and/or better looking once done. It will still be obvious that it is one of yours and a replate but would be much more discrete. Your call though. (It could even just be a small symbol of some sort like a circle or triangle or what have you. You would be the only one in the world doing it and it would become widely known that it is your razor regardless of the mark. People would point it out when showing off their razors. So, maybe think like some of the old cattle ranch guys and come up with a simple to etch yet easy to recognize brand!! Small, discrete, yet findable.)

And for some of you scrappers out there - sheesh!!!! You are attacking this guy and his family on all fronts on just about everything. Seems awfully unfair. (I imagine I will get beat on for being such a wimpy ass liberal, but there ya go!!)

    Go easy all!!!

Incidentally, I recognize the concerns of the collectors, but I fall in the category of one of those who is going to use his razors, and so would much rather have something that is very nice looking versus something that is missing plating and looks like it went a couple rounds with Ali.

I would never try to resell it as vintage, but I would appreciate the condition of a re-plated razor for my own individual use. But then, I would also go and spend every single $2-bill that my grandmother would send me for my birthday, rather than keep it in a collection.:D

Unfortunately, my income level will probably prohibit me from ever buying one of these, if they really go for as high as I am hearing. Incidentally, for anybody who does this kind of service, what would you charge someone? And are there methods for restoring the Super Adjustables with the black handles?

Yes that's him. I see the tongue in your cheek, but come on, chill. I think he's honest and trying to do the right thing. And keeping bidders ID private is well within his prerogative and, in and of itself, shouldn't be cause for suspicion.

See, I tired my best but like I said, always someone going to cause a stir. And for God's sake, please just look at someone's else's eBay or web site! Do you all not see the razor replaters on Badger and Blade and other sites? Pester them! I hate to get rude, but my gosh, this is stupid and ridiculous to me! It is a razor! A little razor! Not some million dollar item that only a few were made. I am not the only one on there that sells razors and lists private. I bought an extension cable on eBay last week, it was a private listing! Why? I do not know and don't care and I got my cable. It isn't any of my business why the seller listed it private. Besides, if you have looked at my eBay, do you see anything private listed? I have been waiting to see if anyone even noticed before all this, but nope! Nothing I have listed lately has been private. The replated razors I list are not private. But I will say I am going back private, I have had too many request it and I wonder if it because of this site. Maybe there scared they will get raked out if they pay too much for a razor. I am tired of trying to satisfy everyone on this site and it is my business to run my way! My customers will agree and that is all I need. I have made many great friends all over the world since I started selling razors. Good luck and thank you to everyone that has supported me and I really appreciate it. The rest can say anything you want but I am definitely out of here and will not be back to even read it. It is just too silly, frustrating and will never come to an end. This should not be allowed to do someone this way on forums to try and ruin there business with false accusations. Don't you think eBay knows if someone bids on there own items or has friends do it? If not, contact eBay, they will explain how they do know!! I am finished trying to explain, it is useless. I am honest and not a liar and God know's it, that is all that counts. :signs080

Anyone have a good way to plate zinc?

It's got to be strike plated with copper first to seal the zinc against the chemicals used in the finish platings.
Lots of places don't want the hassle because if not sealed off the zinc will contaminate the plating solution.

Is that true with all plating methods, ie: chrome? I guess chrome needs copper first though right? I honestly know nothing about plating. I just am stuck with a razor I prepped for plating that I can't plate. :( Oh, and the inside of the head is marked with an R.

Copper based alloys like brass need to be nickel plated before they can be plated with chrome.
I bought several of the vintage slant heads and they had exposed plating and I don't know if I'm going to be able to use them.
So I'm avoiding any Merkurs of zinc razor that need replating.
I had 1 guy and he wanted his custom slant replated in nickel to match the spindle extension I made, the chrome was sound so there was no problem.
BTW. the late model Tech caps with Gillette cast in them are zinc too.
I found that out the hard way.

Hmm, now I'm feeling guilty when I touch up the black painted numbers on my adjustables. Personally, I have no problem with replating as long as it is disclosed. But I do understand the concerns that even if Steve#### is scrupulous, the next re-seller may not be. There are also other sellers on eBay with clearly replated razors that don't disclose this and that is bad IMHO. But Steve, if you did come back to this site, not everyone is hostile to you. I appreciate your frankness here.

I have a recently purchased a Gillette double ring 1906 razor and it is on the way in the mail. I plan on having it plated in hot pink tinted Rhodium....NOT!

    Felony Plating

Far from any sort of crime replating a razor to make it look nice for the user/owner.

From a die hard collectors standpoint perhaps , but I'd say the bulk of the folks out there actually want to use their razor.

I have replated some in 18kt gold that were sold and my Regent came out stunning plated in Sterling Silver.

Side Note - any razor with mechanical moving parts is a major pain to plate , it is not just a simple dip and polish process like replating a "New" head - so there is quite a bit of effort in the process and buffing out the nooks and crannies of a TTO is very time consuming.
