Tuesday, December 13 Day 23 Arko~~Simpson T3~~Canadian Pre-War Tech/Voskhod~~Alt Innsbruck Now we're down to just the soap... Increasing the surface area was a brilliant move, if I may say so, myself. And while I won't reuse this Polish Pottery for future lathering, the shape has proven itself to be quite efficient. This MONSTER T3 (I have asked before, but will ask again, has anyone ANYWHERE ever seen a knot this size?) (29mm) on a T3. Every Tulip on the Simpson website comes with a 22mm knot---even the T4 *** ***This is particularly egregious, given the price. Simpson knots have taken a nose-dive in the manner in which they are tied. Now...look at the real deal: The Canadian Gillette is a perfectly good and quite efficient shaver. Today's was loaded with a fresh Voskhod and performed admirably. Our friend and well-known "freeze-freak", @Yehuda D inspired my choice of post-shave stank.
Day 25 The Castle Forbes keeps on ticking. I’ve reached the quarter century mark with it…don’t think it will make it past the next 5 days. I’ve been focusing on neglected blades in the den to give myself a little variety since the Soap doesn’t. Cycled through Personna Reds, 7 O’Clock greens, a few different Rapiras and other Mostochlegmashes, Feathers, Lord Platinum. So far, my main synopsis is that everything works fine, but I do find some blades just not sharp enough. I will probably buy some Feathers in bulk, fwiw.
Do you mean just on a Simpson, Maestro? This Kent is pretty legendary (@Keithmax has one for sure) at 31mm:
Day 27 The Castle Forbes Lime keeps on ticking. It might make it past 30. Still enjoying it though. A much easier task than what those who chose Arko are going through…
Day 24 I missed yesterday's shave and just got around to shaving this evening. You can barely make out the pattern under the soap: I have decided, that should anyone company produce a lather bowl in this oval shape, I would purchase it, immediately. Its geometry is far more condusive to paint stroke lathering, than the traditional round bowl. The Feather made me work to get a good shave. I have grown accustomed to open blade and healthy, blade exposure, but the AS-D2 demands constant adjustment to the angle. The downward, WTG first pass, I can ride the safety bar. Second pass, XTG ear-mouth, I have to ride the cap. It's a reminder, that not all razors shave alike.
Y'know, if I ever got around to using a bowl, I'd pick the one on the right. Going "back and forth" might be a pleasant change from "round and round".
It does look nice(the Kent brush). Meanwhile, a Kent comb has found its way into my hair since I bought it a few years ago from the Pinaud Clubman website.
I remember your ‘household cleaner’ comparisons for sure! It has been an easy month for me. Arko (or Clubman or Tabac) would not have been for me. Thank goodness Charlie @wristwatchb has no willpower or I would’ve had to shave a full pucks worth of Tabac a few years ago…
good morning gents arko/tech/bolzano work shave.really like these bolzano blades. awesome. have a fine friday everyone.
