What do I have here. To me it looks like a Gold Bulldog in a Bostonian case. I have seen stranger marriages. The case and blade bank are monogramed “E.S.D.” And the top cap is nicely monogrammed “B.F.H.”???-I think. The strange part is the bottom is not with a logo. It is plain with the plating intact. The serial number is C50882. I sure looks like a Bulldog but the lack of logo has me scratching my head. To the brain trust, What Say You?!?!?!?
It is a custom order by a company to give to an individual. E.S.D. is Executive Sales Director or a similar title and the lettering on the cap is mostly likely the person's initials.
i have a canadian single ring with a 1912 serial #.it has no markings on the head , serial #on the barrel.bulldog handle introduced in 1914..aristocrat 1912 ..
Date code puts it at 1914 assuming that is 6 digits C508823 not 5 which it looks to be, Puts it right when that handle was introduced also . Without the Gillette logo it could be for the actual Sales Director for Gillette. I'd do some research and find out who that person was. If it was for another company they usually had the company logo and or name etched somewhere on both. That it is mismatched doesn't matter, they could have lost the original case and the company issued them a new one. This is speculation without doing a little research first.
First let me thank you for the thoughts and input. Due to my old man eyes, I missed the third number. It is there and it is a 3 and that puts it in the proper years. Now I feel comfortable that it is a Bulldog. The thinking on the Monograms is a good one. That would be why the ESD is plain but the cap is over the top. Reasons also why it is mis-matched. Overall, this is one of my best looking sets. I will be worthy of doing some research it try to find some answers on the history
