Yesterday's maiden voyage of my newly rhodium replated 1936 Gillette Aristocrat! 1936 Gillette Aristocrat, revamped and replated in rhodium NOS 1966 (L-2 date code) Gillette Super Blue Blade NOS 1970s Gillette Regular Lather Shave Cream 1930s Rubberset 400-4 brush restored with TGN 24mm Grade A Silvertip badger hair knot Finish: Gillette After Shave Gel Beautiful, wonderful, fantastic shave! No chasing the BBS finish because the BBS finish chased me, tackled me and had its way with me!
That razor really came out beautiful Jody. 400-4 ain't bad either I'll share my Gillette Fifty here if you don't mind... doesn't really fall in the razor or blade category lol. If anyone saw my flea bay post, this is the win. Sent from my SM-G977U using Tapatalk
Yeah, that's not a shave but it's just awesome! Not something we see every day and I'm here for it! Looks great! Well done and congrats on scoring it!
I've got a No.58 set on my list to give a first shave. Didn't know it was an aristocrat Jr. ... Also got a No.59 to try out, a Big Boy, No.22 and about 25 others from my big haul of 55 last month. Next up will be my No.15 French aristocrat in calling "Dangles" because I don't speak French lol. You can see it right off my 58... Sent from my SM-G977U using Tapatalk
very cool.there are 4? known australian ads with the #58 labeled as such.54-5 without the loop in the case.sets were english made, though in england they were not marketed as a crat jr.many folks think the ads are fake.. or misprinted..lots of controversy....my set was sourced from austrailia and is all brass/nickel plate, pat pending on the blade tray and no loop in the case.it's the pretty version of your #59 set.same shave..
Well, here's Dangles! Post shave I think she's more of a La Femme Nikita! She bit me, a few times lol. Did my usual first shave process, hot shower, exfoliating scrub, load a new Feather, lather up and go. Anyone want her? Lofl. Sent from my SM-G977U using Tapatalk
lovely looking original french market set..awesome shave and pics Mike.mine is the late 30s brit version, fine shaver..
Thanks...I haven't dated it yet. Best I saw somewhere was a reference to it in the 30s. Mike Sent from my SM-G977U using Tapatalk
most likely 1936.does it have a flat center bar or have wings at the ends of center bar? kind of like a long "h "
Flat, no wings... Brit. Pat No.400621 on baseplate bottom. Important dangles in handle Sent from my SM-G977U using Tapatalk
very cool Mike.thank you.definitely first generation original 1936.silver plated.my late 30s has the wings on the center bar, rhodium plated,430030 on the baseplate and no markings on the handle.
Too lazy to run upstairs atm, but noticed it's got a different Pat No. on the top of the handle. Zoom in from pic above... Sent from my SM-G977U using Tapatalk
that seems to be the norm for those razors.. 430030 on handle. 400621 on baseplate.just like the brit popular series.
Last evening's shave featured: Gillette birth year and quarter 1973 (T-4) aluminum Tech Fresh Parker Premium Platinum DE blade Art of Shaving Gillette badger Power Brush - they called it oscillating, I call it vibrating dalan d'men Shaving Cream, Sensitive 7" Japanese suribachi bowl First time using one of these Gillette aluminum Tech razors... Just wanted to use something different. This lightweight razor really sings as it plows through the hair. I love a razor that sings! I always use one of my "sensitive" shaving creams when using any razor for the first time, and dalan d'men is my favorite sensitive cream. It's probably all in my head but I will take the chance of turning a bad shave into a decent one by using a sensitive cream. Plus, this is a fine cream even when using with an aggressive razor such as my 2011 MÜHLE R41. And I absolutely love the scent of the dalan d'men Sensitive. Really also enjoying the Parker Premium Platinum blades. Still much thanks to Dale @PanChango for PIFing me a sleeve a couple of months ago when I was just looking for a couple to try out. Consistently get 8 to 10 shaves out of a single blade, of course knowing when it's time for a fresh one from that 8th to 10th. The AoS Gillette Power Brush is actually a pretty decent brush knot-wise, but the vibrating is definitely unnecessary. If it had been a rotating knot, that would have been nice and useful. Just vibrating, does nothing to build up a better lather or raise the hairs. It didn't shed a single hair which was unexpected considering AoS brushes have that reputation. All said, I'm going to put this back in its original box and stick it in the collection display cabinet. Final result: DFS, no blood drawn, no razor burn, etc.
awesome tech shave and pics Jody.i have the brit version of that razor though a little older.fine shaver.cool test run with the new brush.sorry it didn't deliver more.i guess if it did ,it would be a popular and more readily available option today.great piece of history.
