Coming back around to this new Gillette DE, and their other new one, The Heritage, I'm disappointed in Gillette. In these modern times, the head pieces should cover the ends of the blades. I can only imagine how many new wet shavers saw this razor in Walmart, bought it, went home and put a blade in it, went to shave, sliced their ears up with the edge of the blade poking out of the side of the head, and either tossed it all in the garbage or took it back for a refund. Hell, I'm an experienced safety razor user and I still from time to time cut and knick my ear's tragus when I use my early vintage Gillette razors that don't fully cover the blade. Or maybe it is Gillette's plan all along, to drive people away from using a safety razor and back to their expensive cartridges. Either way, I think it's an utter failure on Gillette for this. I was thinking about passing on The Heritage razor I purchased and opened and used, to my brother. He's always asking me about my wet shaving but he's never took the initiative to try it. But I can already hear his voice in my head the first time he slices his ear, and I know how he is. He won't try it again. He won't keep practicing.
i do agree,it's a flaw that most earlier de razors had.on razors like the early news and stuff i trim a touch off the blade side tabs with scissors.i know it's a pain but i am loyal to the cause.a bit more work but way better than carts for me.35 years of those was enough. i can see the "want it all now" folks giving up on it quickly though..injectors and carts didn't have that issue of course but they have their own issues..there are some cool DE designs out there that cover the tabs.
