Hahahahahahaha no, I've prepared for months to kinda shut off my stress until he's actually here. The SO is going to need all mu support. She told me tonight how she likes my composure in stressful situations. It's the least I can do for her is be cool, calm, and collected and help coach her through.

May I ask why you resort to vulgarity if your vocabulary is good? I really don't understand so please take this as purely inquisitive on my part.

I had an uncle who elevated cussing to an art form. I used to be fascinated just listening to him. I remember him greeting the preacher at my grandpa's funeral with something like, "#$%# Preacher, how the (*&*&%&3 are you? I haven't seen you in a &^**%&^ &^%*&^2 long time!" I was floored and little just a little impressed.

Come to think of it, can we just say "smurf" for everything and be done with it?

Seriously, it may be time to close this thread. The position of the mods and the direction of TSD are clear. This has been a respectful discussion, but I feel like we're a hair's breadth away from people getting defensive and raising their backs.

That came off as a rather clever way of saying those of us who swear are actually stupid.

    I'm convinced it was unintentional.

Out of habit? Habits don't make stupid. Habits make human.

Any idea why it became a habit?

& no insult was intended. As I said I'm curious why people feel the need to swear. Most of my elders expressed the vulgarity = lower intelligence or diminished vocabulary to me as I was growing up; most likely a much different time than your formidable years.

I guess from culture. As stated earlier it's very different world over.

Personally, I think there is an art to using language, even when expressing anger or disdain. I have known a few people who could make their displeasure known, in no uncertain terms without ever using curse-words or even street slang. (And I must admit, I love seeing them do it.)

It adds way more emphasis on everything. Cuss words aren't cuss words to me, their words I use. I literally use em just like using any of these.

Telling someone how it is, in a formal and intellectual way, is beautiful.
