+1 but there is a rather decent leap in price! Maker's Mark is liquor goodness. I like Beam too though. Have you tried the Jim Beam Red Stag? 'Tis almost like candy, and absolutely delicious. You are supposed to be able to mix it with a ton of stuff but I can't seem to get past it straight
Left over homemade beef stew over rice a tall cold Bush beer with dinner an after dinner cocktail (the aforementioned Makers Mark solution) maybe a piece of blueberry pie later (To Kill a Mockingbird is on AMC tonight) Life is good boys!
Necropost! Enjoying a big steaming mug of Sauerkraut Soup! :eatdrink020 Well, my second mug actually, but it is sooo good.
I've been making curries lately - stared with chicken curry and seafood curry, using recipes and curry powder, then graduated to individual spices. Had to buy a nice food processor (5:1 Veg:White Meat for me). Now finally, I'm cooking them from scratch, using whatever seems to be right for the moment. Channa Masala is a favorite (Chickpeas and curry stuff). I intend to experiment with more southern vegetarian dishes from the Tamil region, and to gradually add more non-curry dishes to the Indian mix. I'm finally cooking like my mom used to ("I just cook what I feel like eating - the rest of you are on your own"), though my son loves this stuff and my wife enjoys it when there's not too much of "that green stuff" (she's a meatasaurus). Haven't really had fun cooking in a long time. Oh, and I'm losing weight too; it must be all the standing and chopping. Yumm.
I've been busy making soaps for backstock and forgot to eat lunch. I just grabbed an apple and I'm drinking some iced hybiscus tea.
What is that old saying...Great minds think alike... Well almost Oktoberfest Sausage, Perogies with sour cream and Sauerkraut tonight
I will be making a big ol pot of shrimp and sausage gumbo for diner. Served over rice or as I like it over potato salad.
A big ole mug of Beef Veggie Soup, although I make it thick and add pasta, so it's more like a tomato based stew.
Chicken Pot Pie Supposed to get another 8 inches of snow tonight, when will spring be here... Decided to make my Chicken Pot Pie this afternoon, a good cold weather meal. A recipe handed down from my Grandmother, there is no pie just a pot and chicken. I boil a whole (preferably fatty) chicken until the meat is falling off the bones. Remove the chicken from the pot and remove all skin and bone, put chopped chicken back in broth. Add chopped celery, green onion, cooking onion, parsley and salt n pepper to taste. (I add store bought chicken broth if chicken did not produce a good broth) While this is simmering, I make home made egg noodles. Let the noodles dry on a rack or paper towel. About 10 minutes before I am ready to eat, I cut the noodles into the pot..in non uniform little squares. The result is a amazing "comfort" dish resembling chicken soup on steroids. I don't know why my Grandmother called it Chicken Pot Pie but the name stuck. A meal in a pot from the depression era that has become one of my family favorites (As well as anyone that has sat down at the table with us) Served tonight with fresh bread and fomented cherry tomatoes
