Valentine's Day Vittles - I made pumpkin cinnamon rolls for breakfast and for dinner: Baby spinach salad with toasted almonds, craisins & homemade vinagrette, proscuitto wrapped asparagus, soy glazed mushrooms, rack-o-lamb and for dessert a non-dairy chocolate cherry cheesecake.

I was innocently typing my SoS of the day, when this was placed on my lap(top):
    muffin.jpg

It's a raspberry muffin with chocolate sauce and an almond cookie. All home made by my youngest daughter (and SWMBO was allowed to help!)

    :eatdrink020: Yum!

And there are more to come!

Jeff and I have been on a home-made mussel recipe kick the last couple months ... cooking always brings people together. :)

Today we made: Cavatelli with Mussels, Lillet, and Dill. It was yummy! No cheese .. just a delicious homemade cream sauce.

Bourbon is nice... just too sweet for me. Rye is nice too, but Scotch is the only way to go. For me...

The few times I've tried scotch made me cringe but that was partly due to me not drinking alcohol neat too. I'm going to get a bottle of Dewars next and then start easing my way into the "better" scotches. They get so expensive so fast.

Dewar's almost demands a couple of ice cubes...

Excuse the ignorance, but why is that? Rough?

Dewar's is fine either neat or on ice, but I prefer it on Ice. Purists claim that the only "right" way to drink Scotch is neat. However, a splash of water or a few cubes of ice allows the Scotch to "bloom" so to speak and release certain flavors and aromas that are otherwise hidden when taken neat. I posted somewhere the other day that I had an aha moment and decided that I prefer my Scotch neat, but that does not mean I only take it neat. Some brands are better neat, others are better or enhanced with ice. There are even some brands that tell you right on the box to add a few cubes, I think Dimple Pinch is one but I am not completely sure, so I will use this as a perfect excuse to grab one tonight.

I got to talking to some guys at work and they said that scotch is a bit of an art. Making , drinking, and knowing it. A few drops of water and you have a totally different beverage than what you poured. Also, avoid the peat flavor....tastes and smells like band-aids.

I'm intrigued. I can see some of my shave budget going toward this.

I am most deffo not a fan of peat monsters such as Laphroaig; that is an acquired taste that I will never get around to loving. Passport OTH, has a mild peat to it, but that is as much as I want. I stay away from all things Islay (pronounced I-La) for sure! I favor Scotch from the Highlands, Lowlands, and Speyside regions, in that order, and if you want a special treat when it comes to Scotch blends, deffo grab a bottle of The Pinch, AKA The Dimple Pinch, which comprises of malts from the Lowlands and Speyside. The Pinch is in like the top five blends worldwide and it deserves to be there. Nowhere else at its price point ($26.00 at Sammy's) can you find such an exquisite blend of flavors and aromas in a 15 year old (minimum) blend. I grabbed a bottle today because I said I would, just to see if the box called for water; it does not. The Pinch is at its best neat, and the 375ml of the 750ml bottle I bought this evening have all gone down smooth and tasty, 1.5oz (standard shot, but sipped and savored) at a time.

If you want to get your feet wet sipping on Single Malt's neat, grab a bottle of Glenmorrangie or Glen Garioch, either way, you are in for something special!

Scotch is very complex and the flavors change from region to region. It is surprising that so many different flavors and aromas come from such a concentrated area.

C'mon down here and we will sample a bunch o' Scotch and when you leave, I think you will have an appreciation of the dram.

On now to The Dewar's... it has about as much smoke as Passport, but seems smoother, both with, and without ice.. I am not sure that Dewar's is worth the extra $5.00 over Passport, but then the Dewar's 1.75L comes in a glass jug while the Passport 1.75L comes in a plastic jug...

Yanno, you pretty much have to find what you like best and like least and then find your taste vs price point and settle in.
