Lemmy has only ever called Motorhead a Rock & Roll band. Do they have metal, blues and punk songs? Of course they do. But the overwhelming majority of their immortal catalog is good ole Rock & Roll !!!
If you have ever listened to Trans-Siberian Orchestra, you have unknowingly listened to Savatage. Savatage is the band that became TSO. Of course when they were Savatage their music never took off past their large cult following they built. But once they changed their name and wrote songs about Christmas, they became huge. I encourage everyone to visit the back catalog of Savatage. You will hear a metal band that started in the late 70's slowly morph into the symphonic power of Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Sadly the genius guitarist Criss Oliva never got to be a part of TSO. He passed away in a car accident in 1993. Yes, Savatage and TSO have had some great guitar players since then like Al Pitrelli, Chris Cafferty and Alex Skolnick. But none of them were Criss Oliva. He was a special talent !!!
