The Best Of Times is a song about the passing of Mike Portnoy's (ex Dream Theater drummer) father. When it came time for John Petrucci to construct the outgoing guitar solo, he had come up with a piece that expressed the sadness that one feels when they lose a parent or loved one. It's not Petrucci's technical perfection that makes him the best guitar player of all time, it's his knowledge of when to use his technical perfection. He knows when, and more importantly, when not to go for it. Take 4 minutes out of your day, put some good headphones on, close your eyes and listen to this genius make his guitar cry !!!

If you have seen the Trans-Siberian Orchestra in concert, you know how great the show and music are. If you have not seen TSO yet, get tickets immediately !!! There are actually 2 touring versions of TSO, east and west coast. Here are both versions playing O Come All Ye Faithful. This is Joel Hoekstra playing lead in the east coast band and Al Pitrelli playing lead in the west coast band.

    East coast with Joel Hoekstra

    West coast with Al Pitrelli
