Love Peter Hook. His mid to late 80s work with New Order definitely was part of the soundtrack of my youth. I am still trying to find "me" on the bass, and I am trying to nail down what it is about different players that appeal to me. With Hook, I always found his bass lines to be very melodic (often literally) and funky, but in a really dark way.
I think that ultimately finding yourself on an instrument is a conglomeration of all of your good influences meeting all of your bad habits. Now I'm in the mood for New Order:
Loss and hope, in equal parts, set to music, is what I get out of this. Depressing and uplifting at the same time. I can't listen to it very often.
Going to see the mighty Dream Theater next month. I'm not the kinda of guy that looks up setlists but a friend of mine and fellow DT fan said he heard The Dark Eternal Night might be played. Awesome if true because I love this song. If you play an instrument, this song might make stop !!!
