It seems another Jazz head is created! Bob, enjoy the wonderful journey! Getting there is all the fun!
One more from the Kind of Blue album. Listen to Bill Evans at the beginning of this song "So What." Perfect intro to the main body of the song. Quiet, eery, foreboding, and yes completely inviting! More on an album that is a must in every jazz lover's collection. http://www.npr.org/programs/jazzprofiles/archive/miles_kob.html http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/music_box/2009/08/kind_of_blue.single.html
Here is Miles Davis on the Steve Allen show performing All Blues. Miles Davis (steve allen show 1964) all blues Steve Allen was a staunch jazz man and a great song writer and musician in his own right.
This will take a little while but it is a Steve Allen Show in Color in 1960 which is a rarity. From an original color videotape master, see what only the well-to-do folk who could afford a color television in 1960 saw in "Living Color" on NBC Television at 10 p.m. on January 11, 1960. It's "The Steve Allen Plymouth Show", sponsored by Plymouth, a division of Chrysler Corporation. This episode features Steve Allen with Tony Bennett, Caroline Richter, Monica Zetterlund, Jayne Meadows, Louis Nye, Gabe Dell, Bill Dana, Les Brown and his Band of Reknown, This part features Steve and Tony Bennett singing "Wait for Me", accompanied by Les Brown's Big Band. Then, a taped commercial for a 1960 Plymouth Fury Convertible (supposedly Steve's own car). Then, comedian Caroline Richter, followed by 'singing sensation' Monica Zetterlund. This part ends with a filmed 1960 Plymouth Valiant commercial with a Cool West Coast jazz score. PLEASE NOTE: there are a few audio dropouts (from the master). It is in 4 parts. 1. 2. 3. 4.
A tie back to the Steve Allen show above... Bill Evans & Monica Zetterlund - "Some Other Time" Album: Waltz for Debby http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waltz_for_Debby_(1964_album)
This is not only my favorite version of this tune....It is one of my favorite modern Jazz recordings of all time... This shows Chet in the best shape of his life....same concert as above...on this he takes the last solo, be patient....This whole concert is on youtube and should be checked out....It's all great...
Harold Danko the pianist almost steals the show in the second song "Arborway." Chet had the world by string... Looks - He had the James Dean like features Voice - The soft gentle voice that caresses a song Chops - One of the few trumpeters who could challenge Miles Davis for the King of Cool trumpet Heroin was his undoing sadly. We are fortunate for so many great recordings that were made early in his career and those that came at the comeback stage of his career as seen in the videos that Lloyd has presented.
