Awakened by a pounding sinus headache, relaxing to Doyle Bramhall II & Smokestack - Welcome, as I get caught up on my reading.
Took the day off to wait for A/C repairmen to arrive at my home so I am listening to: Stevie Ray Vaughan - The Sky Is Crying
Still waiting so another album. Dorothy Ashby - Afro-Harping 1968 Cadet Records Recorded at Ter Mar Studios, Chicago, Illinois in 1968. Includes liner notes by Del Shields. Personnel: Dorothy Ashby (harp); Richard Evans (arranger). The best and most complete album done by jazz harpist (a rare style) Dorothy Ashby. She didn't approach her instrument as if it were a gimmick, and she wasn't content to be a background/mood specialist. She turned the harp into a lead instrument, and offered solos that were as tough and memorable as those done by any reed, brass, or percussion player. ~ Ron Wynn She was way before New Age harpist by 20 years and extremely soulful and funky.
