One of the highlights of my life was meeting Kurt Vonnegut, he was very kind and signed a copy of Bluebeard for me (my favorite Vonnegut book).

He taught me to keep my books short :)

The Colorado Kid was fun, and definitely unique. Now on to Shibumi by Trevanian. I think there's a ninja in it.

Slogging my way through the original (Ian Fleming) James Bond books. So far I've completed Casino Royale, Live and Let Die, Moonraker, and Diamonds are Forever. About 25% into From Russia with Love. Great period books, for those interested in spy tales. Not at all like the new movies coming out set in the modern times. Straight 1950s and 1960s thrillers.

Escape from Camp 14: One Man's Remarkable Odyssey from North Korea to Freedom in the West by Blaine Harden. Incredible story of a man that was born in a North Korean concentration camp and is likely the only person to escape from one and make it out of the country alive.

The Child Thief, by Brom. A very dark take on the Peter Pan story.

I'm also rereading American Gods, by Neil Gaiman. The two books compliment each other well.

I loved American Gods when it came out. A couple of years ago I was floored when the 10th anniversary edition came out - made me feel very old.

It doesn't seem like it's been that long does it? I really like Neil Gaiman. I was hooked on his books from the moment I read Good Omens; American Gods and Nevewhere just cemented the deal.

If you like American Gods, then I highly recommend The Child Thief. It's a bit darker, but really mesmerizing.

I might try that. I was just looking to see if my local Coles had it. Probably not, since they suck.

Shibumi made my top ten list. It was great. Next I started Embassytown by China Mieville, but I put it down somewhere and cannot find it. So then I started another Trevanian, called The Main. Also The Computer Connection by Alfred Bester. And Sundiver by David Brin. I finished that one. It was great too, and I think there are a bunch of sequels. Today I started Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss.

So that would be: weird fiction + historical murder mystery + dystopian future + adventure sci fi + fantasy epic all at once.

How was it? I've had it in my Kindle for a while but haven't cracked it yet. I'm such a Pendergast fan that I'm worried to switch gears, lol.

I loved it! This was my first Preston and Child book, and I was very impressed. This is the first in a series of Gideon Crew novels. There will only be a limited number of Crew books, according to Preston & Child's website. once you read the first one, you'll know why. On the basis of this one book, I sorely regret not reading them any sooner.

I've already picked up the second book of the series, as well as another of their books. I planning on going back to their first book, and begin reading them in order.
